100% agree. Swimming (men’s and women’s) is one of my favorite events to watch in the Olympics. It would be cool to see some UH swimmers representing the USA.

The overhead costs of Mens wrestling wouldnt be a big vast increase in expense as some of the other mens sports could add. You could retrofit mats to go in the middle of the elevated track for events in the Alumni Center. There will already be a weight room which is most crucial for a wrestler and with football out it is already going to open up so much locker room space

As much people bash pro wrestling there are many who forget or dont know that many US wrestlers in WWE and AEW have amatuer wrestling backgrounds. Remember Kurt Angle who won a gold medal at 1996 Olypmics with a broken neck? Cody Rhodes the son of legend Dusty Rhodes had a good amatuer background in Highschool.

Wrestling during the late 90s and early 2000s was the best era.
That was when you can do the DX Suck It sign to someone and nobody got offended lol!

Oh it’s true

Yep!

All of them are famously gay because they let another man body slam them.

What? Not only is that entirely not true. There are some real mean wrestlers who legitimately can kick some one @ss. Lets see you go tell one of them that. Ric Flair is most definitely not gay that man lived his persona in real life too.

It’s mostly because if we were to add a women’s sport… it should be one that we could not only recruit well in, but dominate.

Houston is a national hotbed of gymnastics talent.

UH isn’t adding anything anytime soon we don’t even have the cash to fire 3 coaches that should have been gone years ago.

Men’s futbol would be a hit…

While not my sport of choice, gymnastics would be a good fit. I would think they would be waiting until finding out the impact of having to pay the players from revenue first and any Title IX impact. I am guessing sports will be cut before any added. UH sponsors less than most other schools in Big 12 so it may be of less impact here.

Yes, this is an old thread but will be interesting to see how it plays out now that the paying players is added to the equation.

Not happening because the Big 12 doesn’t sponsor men’s soccer.

It needs to be women’s gymnastics and wrestling.

Two sports that a) the Big 12 sponsors, b) there is plenty of local available for with little in state competition, and c) require no new infrastructure to be constructed.

For gymnastics, simply buy the apparatus, and perhaps repurpose a room or two in Melcher.

For wrestling, simply buy the mats and repurpose a room or two in Melcher for practice.

UH alum and Olympic medal winning gymnast Shannon Miller has tweeted in support of UH adding women’s gymnastics.

Just a question: How many of you will put these on your attendance calendar and be there for, say, 80% of the matches? Since we never gripe about attendance.
