Willie Fritz Lifetime Contract

Conversation we had in a chat over the weekend. If Willie keeps the trajectory this year and next, and given our history of dumpster fire head coaches in the last two decades. Give the man a lifetime contract at Houston and let him coach here as long as he wants.

A different landscape being in The Big 12 as opposed to C-USA (Sumlin) and American (Herman) but thinking how drastic this program is under Willie compared to Holgorsen….

This is Willie’s last stop…

The man WILL have a statue on campus when he’s done.

Lets wait until he actually accomplishes something statue worthy. There is a good chance he loses 2 (two) more games this year.

Like I said… he WILL have a statue when he’s DONE.

If he only loses two more games this year then that means UH will have won 10 games (or more) in back to back seasons for the first time in program history. Thats not statue worthy but it ain’t nothing to sneeze at either.

Let’s just keep winning and progressing.

I was a big fan of the hire, and a huge fan of what he’s doing. That said, let’s settle down a bit.

Nobody is worried about it.

No coach should get a lifetime contract when they are still coaching. Coaching acumen can turn on a dime. Reward coaches for performance, but never a lifetime contract. You don’t want a Joe Paterno, who didn’t know when to retire, or Jimbo Fisher, who underachieved spectacularly, to deal with.

Maybe it’s the other way around. He’s winning big and producing NFL talent at Cincy. Had he stayed there they might be having a lot more success in the B12.

What would you have to lose? If you look at his age and the investment of restarting with a new coach it would probably be a sound financial decision. It would make almost everyone happy and you wouldn’t even have to think about it for 5-7 years.

Jimmy Sexton is the go-to agent to college football coaches, like Scott Boras is for MLB players.

Comparatively, UH is getting a real bargain right now.

He’s the “lowest paid” Head Coach in the Top 20.

There is no question he deserves an increase in pay. Deciding how much is beyond my pay grade.

What are the numbers in parentheses?

I’ve been told that Willie is here to stay as long as it’s up to him. For him it’s always been about coaching. Winning is the reward. Winning is what brings value, money a benefit. He stayed at Central Missouri for 12 years while he raised his children there in Warrensburg. He didn’t want to go the position-coach route, where you have to move every 2 years. He wanted to be a head coach. He didn’t start seeking to go up the head coaching chain until his kids were out of high school. When he did, he did it one level at a time. Now he is found his level and he is settled in. Win and money will come.
