His last season of 8 games in 2021-TCU defense was 9th of 10th in B12.
For the curious - UH defense was 13th of 14th in 2023. 12th in Offense.
Add a few years of cringe worthy press moments.
Patt sounded ridiculous vs his coaching decisions & team performance.
Eventually alienated his biggest supporters.

These bloated ideas of changes in college football make me laugh. The same schools pay players that paid them before. Players can leave without sitting a year. It works against every school the same.

He went to Texas because the AD and he are close and he wanted to learn what a program like Texas does operationally. Heās not done and is hungry so he took the opportunity to step back and learn from a mega-program. Really sounds like a guy who is too stuck in his ways and not willing to change doesnāt it? LOL!
Some of you guys are so stuck in your mid-major mindset and perspectives that you canāt see the forest for the trees. If your AD blows the chance to get a proven elite level coach like Patterson then heās an idiot and should be fired. If Houston wasnāt in Texas youād have ZERO chance at hiring Gary Patterson. If all he wanted was a D1 head coaches job anyplace that would have him he would have been back at works as a head coach the year he was at Texas. Some of you guys see it. Better hope your AD sees it because those other guys have been winning games in small conferences at small schools with small aspirations and small expectations with small operations, small budgets and small mindsetsā¦and that wonāt fly in the Big 12.

Soā¦he goes to a program that is "gifted " a top 15 ranking every year in the first AP top 25, a school that notoriously does less with more??
I agree Patterson knows what it takes to win & heās seen how a high level program operates NIL & staff wise in the Big 12 at UT. The whole G5 coach thing isnāt guaranteed success either weāve seen Napier fail currently at Florida & Neal Brown be mediocre at WVU. Big reason why Iām not sold on Traylor

I agree that GP would make a great DC but a new head coach is going to bring in his own assistants.
Weāve had good DCās in the past only to wave goodbye to them when the next HC came onboard.
Maybe he would come in with the same position that he had at UT? Our money is just as good as theirs!
LOL! What could he possibly learn from that role at Houston? He didnāt do the Texas job for moneyā¦it was relationships and learning. Iām sure I sound like a jackwagon but some of yāall are so far removed from what the power conference, elite level college football world looks like it blows me away. Mess up this hire and youāll be learning the lesson the hard way for a decade or so and then get left behind when the music stops and the elite are split off one last time.

I thought reject nomad coaches with no home become āadvisorsā or "analysts ". Saban has taken in so many of these types that he deserves to be a Saint!
Boy, you guys sure seem to have it all figured out. The reason Iām hanging around here is because if Gary Patterson gets the job, then you guys are one of my teams. I was a fan back in the Andre Ware days and could definitely get on board again, I have friends who are in the athletic department, which makes it even easier to follow and be a fan. Now all that said, reading some of the things that are posted on this board shows how far the athletic department challenges run in terms of fanbase. The NIL and all of the recent changes make it even harder for anybody who is not a true blue blood to compete But without recognizing the reality of situations, there is no hope.

Patterson would turn this frigate around in short order. No more arm-tackling, stupid penalties, and silly special teams. Iād love for him to come in, break the B12 at the spine, then throw Pez through the emergency door head first.
He could then retire as the AD. And we could make our statue .5 inches taller than TCUās.
