That was a great weekend to be a Coog!
Like all college athletics, baseball has changed with NIL.
I’ve heard that A&M Baseball has a total NIL of 4.6 million. Seems incredible, but if true…imagine how much their best players are getting. How much would you guess their dominant Friday SP Ryan Prater getting?
Former UH player Cary Arbolida filed suit against the NCAA, trying to get an extra year of eligibility so he could play for Kansas St. His legal paperwork stated that he would make 50K if eligible. Far as I can tell, he did not win his suit, or at least he’s not playing.
My presumption is that if you are a P5 All Conference type player, with eligibility, you now command big dollars. Especially if you are a top tier pitcher; I can only imagine what an SEC program will pay for a proven great starting pitcher. Likely well into the six figures.
I presume the NIL amount for UH Baseball is negligible compared to most of our B12 competition. UH is going to have to do better to give the next guy a chance to succeed.
U better send them some money then!!
He was asking for another year because he played at a JC for two years. Since the NCAA gave the JC players an extra year to the seniors this year, he thought that he should get another year as well. I am not an attorney, but I don’t see why he didn’t win his case. He is a great guy, too, so it would have been nice to see what he could do at KSU.
The A&M NIL is on a whole different level. You can’t compare anyone else to them. I know a kid who started as a weekend pitcher for LSU last year and he only got $50,000. There just isn’t a whole lot of NIL money in college baseball right now.
As far as the portal, no matter who comes in, I don’t see us being able to get the elite HS players right away. I think it is going to be the exact opposite. They are going to have to get more players out of the portal and cherry pick a few HS players that have a chance to play., mainly pitchers. It is very rare for HS players to play right away in a P5 conference.
And if they do at UH, and show promise, good luck holding on to them (reference Ace Reese).
Ace Didn’t leave just for cash.
I’ll leave it at that.
I forgot about that guy. And I knew I shouldn’t have looked up his stats to see how he was doing.

He left because Kivett is a piece of you know what.
Another one.
Struggled in B12.
FWIW
Player of the year candidate in ASUN so far.
Only 2 errors.
An understatement. He was really really bad. Glad he’s doing well, but he needed to transfer.
Completely agree. He is not a Big 12 player. He needed a new environment.
He put up good stats his first two season here, in the AAC. I know the B12 is a step up, but his production fell so much, it looked to me like he lost focus.
He is a different cat. I just don’t think he can hit Big 12 pitching. With that said, if you start to go downhill, this is not the staff who is going to work with you to get it turned around. They just turn on the player.
I’ll bet he could hit our pitching. ![]()
Not if we hit him first. Or walk him.
I didn’t think about that. You are correct, sir!
I’m still tired of Whitting, and will continue to be tired of Whitting until there is no more Whitting.
I’m ready for volleyball season to start. I need an excuse to get back to campus now that basketball is over.
I would have supported a 15 game suspension.
