If Nunez hasn’t had a list of candidates prepared to inquire about for a least a month now then he is not as prepared as an AD as we need. The thought of that is very disturbing.
Great post.
100% on NIL.
But what most people are not understanding is that you are in the top 3 areas in the country for prep baseball.
Most kids that go play D-1 baseball are not getting any NIL at all.
Only the TOP players coming out of HS get anything.
There are guys playing all over the country from the Houston/Austin/San Antonio areas.
And I’ve said this before, the showcase programs are hoping UH makes the right hire, because they would be willing to send their players there again….its been a good while.
You can field a team with enough talent to make the NCAA tournament within a couple of years tops.
Excitement around the team will grow and as it does more money will be available.
I have been saying for a few years I wanted Allen or Hallmark to be the guy.
As of Saturday I heard that Hallmark had interest….so if he is “not” a candidate anymore then I don’t know what happened.
Nunez should always have a list of candidates prepared for every coaching job we have at all times, he’s not going come out and say that, they will always appear to have a search. Do you expect him to come out and say, I have been talking to agents for the last 3 months. Remember when we hired Fritz we had an extensive search, I know it was not under Nunez, but our search ended a couple hours after Fritz coached the conference championship game.
No he’s not.
Nunez thinks Hallmark is a jerk. That’s why he’s not a candidate
The year TW was hired I believe Mack Rhodes was the AD. The final two candidates were Tim Tadlock and Whitting. Tadlock went on to get the Tech job a few years later. A swarm of former players and alum directed Mack to make the Whitting hire as it made the most sense and Whitting was doing great things at TCU after doing great things at UH for many years. The hire was largely considered a major success for the program from just about everyone that cared locally.
This time around is much different. Your influential alum and former player base has zero connection with this new AD and he likely doesnt care to know what they think, he wants to be the decision maker. If he did care to ask, you would see Sean Allen’s name leading the headlines right now as he is the logical choice if Hallmark is out.
What I hope this AD does not do is make the same mistake Rice did with Bragga and hire someone with zero Texas ties. It would be a major mistake.
The easiest path to success is get Allen as your head guy and let him build some young hungry recruiters and assistants and start rebuilding the recruiting pipelines in Houston and Texas.
You are so FULL of sh-t….go away you troll.
Well said, and I gotta tell you….Allen has more Texas connections than any and all other applicants combined.

Yeah, people don’t really get this part - baseball is different than football and basketball. There will always be some kids that want to leave the area, but the vast majority would love the opportunity to stay kind of close to home to play for a winning coach who actually develops players and treats them right. And there are great players from other states that would love the opportunity to play in Houston.
In a lot of ways, the baseball HC job at UH is more attractive than football has been.
Sean Allen has over 20 years of assistant coaching experience at UH, FIU, Sam Houston, Tulane, UT, Ohio State and now USC. Why has he never taken a HC job?
Was Hallmark the Rice Coach that started talking s### to the UH fans after our extra inning loss to them in regionals? Whoever it was he looked like a total ass yelling at people in the stands from the field.
Yes, it was.
Hmmm…
How IRONIC would it be if Hallmark ended up being the guy after all that?
Somehow I doubt he’d be near the top of the list with that in his background.
It was seen as a great hire based on TW was given lot of credit for what TCU had built from the recruiting side. As we’re in the Big 12 now, the new hire is crucial IMO. Hit it right and watch us soar, wiff and it’ll be more of the same…apathy

Yes, because no coach in the history of sports has ever had success that was considered a “jerk” by outsiders….get real.
Ask any of his players what they think
Of Pat….he is a tough SOB but he gets results with little to no resources….but sure, ignore all that because he’s a big meanie.
Well, regardless. There may be a reason Duarte says he isn’t a candidate. Maybe he has burned bridges in that regard.
Hey listen, I don’t really know, but I don’t think it’d be beyond the pale to think that that would be an issue.
There are some people that think there is no base for this program. I’m telling you there is. There is a deep, diversified foundation of former players and alumni that will support the Allen hire. And not because he is a buddy, but because they know the type of coach he is and his Texas relationships. The UH baseball program is not the same as basketball or football where you can bring in an outsider to change the culture. It is one that requires the knowledge of how to make it a success here, the same success that Noble made it for a decade. Allen saw this type of success here as a player and a coach and knows that formula, which is unique to this school/program.
That formula is creating a pipeline in central and southeast Texas from the select ball rainmakers and getting that 1b and 1c level of kids here. The 1a kids are going to go to Texas and SEC schools, but UH needs to be hitting that next layer.
I think Hallmark would be a home run hire, but maybe he truly is out for some reason. The other option that provides some level of certainty is Allen. The rest are just plug and hope for good results.

It is 100% NOT the reason.
Are you aware that his team is still playing and has a shot at another NCAA tournament?
So?
May not matter if he’s burned bridges in the manner described.
Just sayin’!
Hey listen. He may have an impressive resume. He may be a better candidate on paper than several others on the list. But with that in his history, a lot of people may have their reservations about inviting him in, rightly or wrongly.
This is not what I was told yesterday….wonder if Rogers got that from Pat himself?
Because you don’t know anything. Eddie doesn’t want Hallmark. Move on.
