I love this, “he/she needs a chance in the B12” angle.
There’s never been a better time to be a coach at UH.
Everyone is grandfathered into 3 more years.

No way, that would wreak havoc on the winning %!
Think SWAC, MAAC, & Northeast Conference.
At least with baseball, the problem isn’t that it’s difficult as much as it is that we’re just doing it wrong. It’s just failure to develop and execute a plan. We’ve had some tremendous teams in the past, even without the resource commitment. It’s him, not us.
It’s all about recruiting and I agree we have lacked in that area in most of our minor sports.
Bottom line is that the big donors have spoken and we won’t know any earlier than next year what is going to happen.
Something we all have to live with
Who are these “big donors” everyone keeps talking about? Do they wear burnt orange or live in Oklahoma or Kansas? I can’t believe anyone who donates big bucks to UH athletics would do so with the stipulation that we keep a coach that has turned UHBB into a 3rd quadrant program.
Probably not a good idea to even schedule anyone from the IVY or C-USA
Right.
Especially in baseball….You would think anyone that is a “Big Donor” in baseball would really know the game.
It should be the opposite….like fire this guy or I STOP donating money to the program.
Guys, guys…we don’t need to go into the big 12 rudderless. We need steady hands to guide us through these complex first years.
When I had baseball season tickets , I remember that the season tickets were basically reserved seating for all chairs down low and all bleachers were GA. Then after the last super regional, the next year, I laughed when the ticket office got cute and started sectioning off different parts of the ball park seating with increased pricing, as if saying “now that the Cougars are really good, we have to raise prices to match the play on the field”.
I truly LOL’d at the time. Yeah, and how long did that last? I don’t know what the pricing is today (or what it will be for the B12) since I dropped my season tix, but getting into a power conference, for UH baseball, isn’t an automatic demand for season tix.
I’ll definitely be going to some games, but I’m not buying season tix. It’s going to be so embarrassing. I’ll be happy to eat crow, but I have a feeling that won’t be in my diet next year.
Knowing Whitting is a dead man walking why would a kid want to sign here? I know there’s the portal and kids can leave whenever they want but this sure doesn’t help things.
That’s part of why he got a three year deal.
I’m not sure we have many kids signing just to play for him, anyway.
If it’s up to me, he woulda be gone a few years ago! Never mind getting a contract extension! Most coaches are gone after 2-3 bad years, but this guy has been around for 12 years and he is still around despite being terrible at what he is doing! I just checked his tenure and he has been at UH since 2010! Holy moly!
The portal is a problem. However, there are a lot more kids entering the portal than there are kids finding a new place to play. It will be very interesting to see where the UH kids land.
He’s going to guide us into the B12
Yea. Guide us to the bottom of the big 12 like that oceangate sub
I thought the time we expanded Kim Helton’s contract in football was risky since he’d only had one winning season and it was our first year in C-USA.
This is beyond risky, it is a flat out bad decision.
Here’s where they’re acting like amateurs. All this business about going into the B12 w/so-and-so or so-and-so is leading UH into the B12 is a crock.
That’s a ham-handed attempt to convince people you can’t make changes.
Sampson and the volleyball coach are beating the b12 now. We know they can perform at that level.
The others aren’t going to suddenly coach better in the B12. If you’re waiting for B12 recruiting to make a ten year failure more productive then you’re in for a long wait.
If the 3 year deal is true, I am out. Period. This has to stop.
It’s going to be players parents or opponents fans running in the tequila, salt, and lime race next year.
Lolol
Like some movie set in Zwolle, Louisiana.
