Moon was great. Sorry I am not a big fan of movies driven by special effects.
By the way I would to remind everyone that on July 20th is the 50th year anniversary of the Moon landing.

One of my favorite movie is “The right stuff” I encourage everyone to watch it. Mr. Dennis Quaid has a big part in it.

Bad Times at the El Royale

This seemed like such a promising movie: Great cast, solid premise, mysteries afoot. However, the whole move falls apart once everything is put in motion and just never recovers.

Feels like a movie that should have been a TV series. I was more interested in the backstory of the hotel and how it got to be that way as well as the backstories of the characters over the story they were showing on the screen. Probably would have been a good HBO series.

Ah well…win some, lose some.

I can’t think of anyone better suited for this. Branagh, of course, made his mark with Shakespeare’s plays (my favorite will always be Henry V), and moved on to other projects.

The last movie I saw, while we’re on the subject, was “Yesterday.” I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would. It raises some interesting questions, like would a band like the Beatles find the same success today? One scene particularly makes this relevant. That lady from SNL plays his agent who spends all her screen time trying to remake the chap who is terribly “gifted.”

Truth is, Brian Epstein refashioned the boys from the Teddy Boy look into the less threatening collarless suits. And George Martin wanted them to record “How Do You Do It.” Lennon particularly balked. Their impetuosity was more than matched by their talent.

Long time, Insane!

Yeah, I saw Yesterday and liked it. It does show how the contemporary music industry is one of the more significant microcosms of the phoniness permeating so much today. I’m sure George Martin had commercial instincts, but he knew the music mattered. Compared to the SNL woman playing that role… Well, there is no comparison. Something tells me John wouldn’t have been able to work with her.

I think the music biz began to decline in the 80s and that decline grew ever faster at the turn of the century. IMO, MTV, synthesizers, and commercialism seeping into every aspect of our modern life are primarily responsible. Have you heard of Greta Van Fleet? They’re actually better than a lot that’s out there but they’re such an obvious ripoff of Led Zeppelin. The singer sounds just like Robert Plant, and the music is very similar. I couldn’t see them going anywhere 20+ years ago, but I guess Zeppelin was long enough ago that they can get away with it now. Well, at least they play instruments and actually produce real music, which is more than I can say for “techno-pop” and so much of the industry today. Greta Van Zeppelin

LION KING

Nalas voice was a little off for me and some parts were missing but overall it was the same movie in CGI. Beautiful shots and good imagination of what it would be in real world location. Music was good also and i wasnt aware James Earl Jones would be doing Mufasa again so i enjoyed the nostalgia of it.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Caught this in the theater a couple weeks back…kind of had mixed feelings about it. Thought the first half of it was pretty lackluster and a little boring. Kind of understand as this is the first movie after Endgame so they had to build some things up again, but a lot of it just fell flat for me. However, the 2nd half of the movie shined and put everything back on track for me.

Not one of the better Marvel movies, but it was still good and probably slots in somewhere in the middle for me.

I didn’t care for the movie Yesterday but agree with you about Greta Van Fleet.

Yeah, I was really impressed with how well they did the animals and the cinematography.

@CgrBkr was a good movie. Kinda slow towards the middle but definitely a good movie. Enjoyed this one, great recommendation.

This one was alright. I dont know much of how Jackie Robinson acted in his life but in the movie I just didnt feel like Chadwick Boseman portrayed enough facial emotion to really sell his frustration or emotion with the lack of dialogue. Or maybe that’s how JR really acted idk. It was okay to me.

Beware she is everywhere.

By the way if you like Elizabeth McGovern she was great in Ragtime. Another great movie for everyone.

Just got back from “Downton Abbey.” Because the TV show was such a masterpiece, I had very high expectations for this film. Of course, that meant that I had to prepare myself to be disappointed in the event that it didn’t live up to the hype. Fortunately for me, it not only met, but EXCEEDED expectations. Truly the credit to an already great franchise.

It has all the ingredients that you would expect: upstairs/downstairs intrigue, soap opera type romance, magnificent period costumes, high production values, and a well-written story line.

SEE IT RIGHT AWAY!!!

“Abominable” is a decent piece of animation. Take the whole family!

“Judy” was educational. I hadn’t realized just how screwed up that lady’s life was. Good acting performances by Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland, and by the girl that played Lady Mormont in “Game of Thrones” as her daughter.

I had very low expectations because the show was such a masterpiece and I was pleasantly surprised. They didn’t try to do what the show did. There wasn’t much too it really, just a reunion with old friends. And they just cut Maggie Smith loose to do whatever she wanted. Two thumbs up.
