House leaving had nothing to do with Dickey. Other distasteful issues in play here

Ok I guess. I never made any comment abt House leaving?

The Big E was a freshman at UH when I was a freshman at UH. I saw him play at Jeppensen Fieldhouse on the freshman team. Then onto Delmar. Rarely if ever missed a game.

The Big E was the reason all games were sold out.

Regular season nba games give the fans what they want… lots of points, dunks, traveling, lot of grandstanding, oh-lay defense, etc. It is what the audience wants.

When the playoffs start, there is some effort made on defense. It ramps up as a team gets deeper in the playoff.

Joey : I think you’re the greatest, but my dad says you don’t work hard enough on defence. And he says that lots of times, you don’t even run down court. And that you don’t really try… except during the playoffs.

Murdock : The hell I don’t!! ( grabs Joey by collar ) LISTEN KID! I’ve been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I’m out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

Will just disagree on the defensive effort. Amazing how they can pick n choose when to play defense during the playoffs as you say! I’ll keep saying its the elite athletes that make it look easy at the top level. I’ll leave this to ponder…Corey Davis was above avg defensive player and could score at good pace at the College level but will prob never see the floor as a player in a NBA game. Not a bad thing just #AnotherLevel. Out!

This isn’t accurate at all. I loved that era of hoops but the defense was not “better” by a long shot. The rules have been modified to give greater freedom of movement beginning with getting rid of the Derek Harper hand check. But beyond that offensive spacing is so much better now. The triangle is kind of a dumb offense that’s easy to guard nowadays because the spacing in it isn’t good. Rudy T-ball wouldn’t work as well today because of the loosening of playing zone, but it actually was one of the better spacing offenses of that era. Players today are also so much more athletic and so much more skilled that they are a lot harder to guard.

I get why people may have found the league more interesting in what was the golden era for the NBA for a number of reasons. But the actual skill level/strategy of what was happening on the court was not better then. If you brought any of those teams to today in Doc Brown’s Delorean they would get smoked.

So I actually do agree that defensive intensity ramps up in the playoffs. In an 82 game season there is some pacing and the playoffs are just more intense. The defense the Rockets played in the series with Golden State that went to 7 a couple of years ago was sensational and could not be sustained in an 82 game season. I wish they’d shorten the season a bit (maybe 65ish games), though it will never happen for financial reasons.

However, I strongly disagree with EE on where the regular season baseline is from which the playoffs increase.

Def agree with the 65 gm season would only ramp things up. Playing in the Bubble has definitely seen the play increase at a higher level in many areas. Less travel, in a controlled environment etc. Been very pleased so far with all the games as an entertainment value.

I agree about the nba and in the bubble…Ad far as house goes I think the only reason he came here was because of maligi and dickey. I think Thomas gets alot blame for leaving when all he wanted to do was play in an ncaa tournament for his senior season. CKS even mentioned that and said they werent going to be a ncaa tournament team that year with him.

We were in a great position hitting a HR with a coach and they decided to not be a part of it.

So yeah I didn’t care for either while playing for OU at a&m

I mean when a player says he wants to play in an ncaa tournament before he graduates and a coach is honest and tells him that’s not gonna happen here…idk know how that’s wrong on the player.

In NBAs golden years defensive players were celebrated. Rodman, Maxwell and Glove Payton just to name a few. Do we even have hard fouls nowadays ? Whenever I see any nba I see people wide open and shooting and then missing an open wide shot. Yes that is my current perception of nba. It is absolutely horrible. Scorers like harden are celebrated but you never see a defense on him like a Payton or a Maxwell or a Lambeer to give you the hard foul.

Guys are celebrated for defense like Gobert, Kawhi, Marcus Smart, Giannis, Draymond, and others. It is rare today for a guy to only be a defensive specialist as a wing player because it’s very hard to play nowadays if you can’t shoot. However OKC has a rookie like that in this series giving Harden fits.

Hard fouls don’t happen as much today because the rules against them are much harsher to protect people from getting hurt. I think that’s an improvement. If you miss those and just like a more physical game that’s fine but definitely doesn’t mean Laimbeer was a better defensive player than Gobert.

Offensively players just weren’t as good and definitely didn’t have as good range. In that finals game 1 where Jordan hit all those 3s he was wide open almost every time. There have been times in the bubble Lillard has gotten a double as soon as he crossed halfcourt because his range goes out 35 feet.

But who leaves a 3 pt shooter open in the corner to try to stop a layup with your team up 2 points and only time remaining for your team to get the final possession? And…just make your FTs.

I had the last game recorded but one of my friends blew it and told me that we lost before I watched it. So idk the exact play you’re referencing, but it sounds like hate for house…

4:20 mark…

RIP 19-20 Rockets season

Need Russ back badly.
