Positives for outdoors: Shaun is much better in the 100 than 60 and also struggled last year in the indoor 200. Akindele is better in the 110H than 60H. De’Vion Wilson also will be a threat in 110H. Then we get the 4x100 and Quivell in the 400 hurdles. Also I think Ruiz might be available for outdoor season to return another pole vaulter.
I know next to nothing about T&F strategy, but is it possible that we didn’t have a strong indoor showing because Coach is trying not to peak too early? Saving it for outdoor season?
I don’t know much about the training side for sprinters. For distance runners, that is for sure part of the strategy.
I’m sure with somebody like Shaun they didn’t want to run him into the ground during indoor season when he will be a key for getting points in 3 events, maybe 4 in outdoors. Probably focused on working on his starts and getting him back into long jumping. Working on running the indoor curves might have given him a better shot at the indoor 200 but at the end of the day money is made outdoors so why waste energy with that?
Hamberlin ran in a couple, not sure on what happened, hopefully not an injury. If Lewis gets back to form, that would be a huge help. Or if Khriss is in top form. Need a 400 guy or two to step for our relay team. A breakout outdoor season for one of the young guys is possible too.
Sampy won the pole vault at the Texas Relays with a new school record and top height in NCAA this season. Really has a shot at a title this year (his jump this weekend would have gave him a silver at NCAAs last year). Kind of disappointing with the relay teams. 4x100 finished 4th, 4x200 finished 4th, 4x400 finished 6th, 4x800 was 4th. Quivell Jordan was 5th in 400m hurdles. No individuals for 100 or 200 on the men’s side. Tamayo-Garza got 4th in the 100m for the women. Didn’t have any relay teams for the women.
Good question, no idea as he is still listed on the roster but nothing this season. I was wondering the other day how hard this season is on Leroy after the tragedy last summer. Some can use work to get their mind off something like that, but he faces constant reminders every day. Not sure if I could have coached this season if I was in his shoes.
I saw where former Coog Kirk Baptiste (Silver Medalist in the 1984 Olympics in the 200 Meters) just died at age 59. I think he would have been a teammate of Carl Lewis?
The track team took a lot of 1st place finishes but, not being a close follower of track, can any one tell me how these times and distances stack up nationally or in the AAC?
