2024 Big 12 Recruiting Rankings UPDATE 2/8/24 Raised to #47 (Added Transfer Rank)

https://247sports.com/Season/2024-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/?Conference=AAC

UTSA is next to last in the AAC rankings. However, their average recruit rankings are third behind Tulane and Tulsa. (SMU already grouped with ACC.) UTSA only has ten commitments. Maybe urban schools take fewer from high school knowing that they can recruit from the portal.

Kansas State only has 10 commits and they won the Big 12 last year, Utah and Colorado have 10 commits. I don’t know if local area matters too much, it’s just on the coaches whether they want to fill in the class early or not.

Some do it early, some later. What matters is the end result.

Deion did that and their results have not been good……and no way Dana is pulling anywhere near the same portal class as Sanders.

The biggest high school game in the state & UH had zero presence at the Desoto/Duncanville game. This morning, the star of the game (a relatively low recruited) 4 star WR commits to SMU. We have no presence in DFW & kids here actually want to come to Houston. Desoto’s ā€˜25 class is probably best in state & is flying under the radar…we could really get some talent there & other schools here in the city with more effort. We’re not talking lack of NIL or collectives, these kids aren’t even being recruited at all.

Dana already said he quit recruiting freshman for next year….the only thing left to add are portal guys……that’s not going to move the needle.

They had 1 win last year and he wont need the portal this year. He is recruiting HS…

Since UH needs players ready NOW, don’t look for many high school recruit signings. I think the resources are being devoted to JUCOs and the transfer portal. CDH has said as much. And to further that strategy, some of the performances of certain positions need an upgrade in talent. Its where the program is now.

If CDH focused mostly on high school kids, he may get a few 4 :star:s, but history tells us mostly 3 :star:s, and UH would not be competitive until those kids, assuming they pan out, get experience, and by that time, CDH will be long gone from the program.

The transfer portal these days is where all the Houston kids see the grass is not greener and come back home. It almost does the recruiting for you knowing these good athletes want to play and Houston is the best place to come home to. But we have to have the NIL these days to make it work, it is a different ball game.

Excellent point, Houston players coming back home has lot of excitement vs players not getting time somewhere else

I’m fine with the portal for a good chunk of the team, but would still feel better if we had 12-13 high school recruits. I do like that Dana goes after guy with multiple years of eligibility in the portal. Manjack, Brown, Hypolite, Stephon Johnson, Coley, and others are basically high school recruits anyway with all of them coming in with 3 or 4 years of eligibility. It doesn’t seem like many of our transfers have been 1 year guys.

My next concern is we could win in the AAC by getting guys from Big 12 or PAC schools that aren’t playing, but I don’t see that being a winning formula now that we are in a P5. We should get more G5 all-conference types (like Marcus Jones).

I’ve always thought Dana’s recruiting is #2. :toilet::toilet::toilet::roll_of_toilet_paper::roll_of_toilet_paper::roll_of_toilet_paper:

You are so right, DFW has for years produced many a Coog player. South Dallas especially, not so much in the Plano’s and Allen’s. It’s sad that DFW is not recruited, Tune came from Carrollton.

Modern recruiting at UH

Last time I checked, Red Bull, vodka, and black hookers were readily available in the Metroplex.

Another good example is Haulcy, who currently leads the Big 12 in unassisted tackles.

I happen to be in Fort Worth so can you be more precise ? For research purposes only.

This. Russey type guys come to mind. I don’t think we are going to be getting starting caliber linemen (what we need) from the portal. Why would we want a guy who couldn’t start at another P4 school?

WE MOVED UP LETS GO!!!

The portal helps your back, strengthens your bones and joints, and helps you sleep, making you feel refreshed. Hell, it took two strokes off my golf game.
Do what Dana did. Get the portal today.
