Every one of our current group of high-level shooters has had games (or stretches of games) like this, and they spend hours every day all year working on it, while kids in high school are going to school.
Playing PG he shot over 60% this year, and he has an assist:turnover rate of 4:1. He makes 1/3 of his 3P shots. Shead’s best year at UH was 31%. I get that we’re talking about whether he could see some time at the 2, but his 3P numbers look similar to Mercy’s high school, and I don’t think there’s any doubt people think Mercy shoots well enough to play the 2.
I agree with you. I hate to say it but it might be in Lath’s and the teams best interest for him to transfer out for more playing time. If we can bring in a big who can be serviceable and give us valuable minutes, why would we not? I don’t want guys just sitting on the bench taking up scholarships, when someone else could actually be playing.
you can not compare HS shooting numbers to D1 especially from public school… the 3pt line is way closer and the level of defense is basically open shooting drills
comping sheads high major d1 shooting numbers to Flemings has zero correlations.
here’s a note i always use- i always say knock 7-8% off any juco 3pt shooting % and 4-5% off any low major transferring to a decent league… ie if they are coming in as a 41% shooter from sam houston state, i normally have an expectation for them at 36%…there is a reason 95% of the top 50 shooter are in the low major (season wide stats), and everyone on the list last year who transferred up aren’t on it this year…
that is d1 to d1 percentage comp, let alone High school
fun fact i did have doubts about mercy as a shooter coming in, and noted that is why i had some doubts about him being a major year 1 impact (along with D)… pollard actually talked me into mercy being a very good shooter, so i bought stock… but actually seeing him in shooting drills pre-game his shooting does needs work… but mercy can be a great scorer without being an elite shooters, and you dont need to be a great shooter to be a pg…and i expect mercy to improve his shooting in the offseason… note mercy shot at a higher volume and high percentages that fleming
From Grok, regarding notable times Steph Curry made 0 three pointers in a game in his NBA career. This doesn’t purport to be every 0’fer game he’s had. Based on some comments in this thread, it seems Steph’s shooting needs some refinement.
November 4, 2016, vs. Lakers: Curry went 0-for-10, ending his then-record streak of 157 games with a made three.
February 27, 2017, vs. 76ers: He went 0-for-11, marking his worst three-point shooting night by attempts, in a win (19 points total).
December 17, 2023, vs. Trail Blazers: He went 0-for-8, snapping the 268-game streak, in a win (7 points total).
January 7, 2024, vs. Raptors: Curry went 0-for-9 in a blowout loss (9 points total), noted as his second such game in a few weeks.
Your statement implies they are back 100%….thats simply not true, especially in JoJo’s place….
There are multiple mocks that have him in the first half of the second round.
Of course there are things he can work on and get better….but there are so many factors you have to consider.
Age is one factor….for the NBA, the younger the better right….in most cases they want them young and to be able to work on the skills you speak of with their coaches….is it worth it for him personally to stay in school another year….
Money is a huge factor….what will he make if drafted in the first ten picks of round two vs NIL to stay in school?
Lots of other things to consider….i just listed a couple of them….
not sure. I embarrassingly purchased Minnesota season tickets because I wanted to see these two play. then I looked at the schedule and Minn and Rutgers only play in NJ.
I think the rest of the B1G is just THAT good. Dont ya think?
Yes I was there. Kingston had trouble finding his shot to say the least. It wasn’t until the very end when he made a shot that wasn’t a layup or FT.
His team was truly awful shooting the ball from the field and line. I am not sure the SA team is used to playing a school like Bellaire with multiple big guys and that athletic. KF played like he is accustomed with some good drive and kicks but they weren’t falling. This is probably the type of team they needed KF to be a little more selfish to stay with them.
It is clear KF has a pure stroke from the arc and line. He will be the fastest guy with the ball in his hands we have had.
Super athletic and will play defense on the ball. He is at a good starting point for June.
He doesn’t seem to have much of a stop and pop inside the arc or floater game. He could have abused them at will. The handles are real and the rest will develop here.
Not a good shooting day but doesn’t take a away my excitement to get him here.
Its a pretty solid bet that being around better basketball talent at UH will escalate Flemings game, not to mention the superb coaching he will get. The whole 1-10 issue is a negative factoid looking for a larger negative to surround itself with.
the full convo context was that almost every scouting report for flemings is that he has to improve his shooting (made before that game)… CM just used that game as another example… a couple debate points on how good of a shooter he is, in regards to readiness… and a 2nd how important is shooting in regards to our pg readiness (who traditionally aren’t great shooters)
the big convo is uzan is playing his way up draft boards…if he gets high enough to leave… do we give kingston the keys ( maybe getting a bench piece)…or get someone with the intent that he’ll start over kingston
