Exactly! He had a very shitty record. This isn’t about how he is producing. Apparently, at UH, it is all about what donor likes you. It doesn’t matter what you do on the field. As my Dad used to say, “it is all about who you know and who you blow.”
The fact that you can cheer for what that man has done the last 6 years tells me all I need to know.
Rice is one of the worst teams in the country……not sure it’s something to brag about.
It’s like an 18 year old beating up a 12 year old.
I always cheer for my Coogs regardless who is at the helm of any sport.
I would think if we were going to make a change it would have happened already or very soon.
Go Coogs!
I cheer for the team no matter what…win or lose.
Am I happy with Whitting’s performance over the last several seasons?
Of course not. This isn’t about cheering for Whitting.
But when it comes to being a UH superfan…I support the team no matter what.
Trust me.
I was in the Astrodome during Helton’s 1-10 and 2-9 seasons in 1994-1995, and in Hofheinz during the Alvin Brooks era. I was at CougarField when it first opened…and we were definitely not good that season.
Cheering for the team and cheering for my school aren’t dependent upon who is coach.
I’m sure that’s true with Colt45 as well.
It’s one of the bars for me as a Coogfan.
Maybe 15-20 years ago……but using Rice as a “bar” in any of the main three sports is not even low hanging fruit….its the nasty stuff on the ground the squirrels and bugs have gotten too.
I guess that is kind of my point. A new coach has to beat Rice. At least.
I think he’s coming back.
Pez extending Whitting’s contract ranks right up there with the time AD Bill Carr extended Kim Helton’s contract in Football. It was a gamble that didn’t pay off. Helton was fired after his 2nd winning season by AD Chet Gladchuck.
We haven’t played in a Regional since 2018 and there is no excuse for that.
No doubt.
But his Big 12 record this year was a lot better than the Big 12 records that the tennis, softball, and women’s basketball coaches all had in the years that they were fired. Those were the last three coaches in non-revenue sports to be fired.
And, unlike those others, Whitting’s last record was better than the previous season.
NOT comparable. Not even close.
Debate all you want. Cougar baseball is DOA if Whitting stays.

Edit
Not sure how a 1 got in there for players drafted 2025. I have no idea how many will be drafted.
Comparing records of different sports is just plain stupid….it goes right along with all your “suckitude” nonsense.
You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about….shocker.
I was going to say the same as well but it obviously falls on deaf ears.
The athletic department built that Baseball Player Development Center. Now, it’s time to get a head coach and staff who know how to use it.
The only thing I think players use it for now is a place to eat their lunch from the Cream Burger on Elgin St.
Did the athletic department do that or was that all private donors that Whitting organized? I actually think that it was the latter.
Whoever it was, it’s not producing much player development with our current HC and staff.
Oh, they get their snacks there, too. Complete waste of a facility.
Those other non-revenue sport coaches had Big 12 records that were many levels of suck worse than Whitting’s, especially in their last seasons.
Again…FACTS don’t change simply because they don’t fit your preferred narrative.
Facts are stubborn things, and truth endures.
Illustration:
Women’s tennis 2024: 0-13 (.000)
Women’s basketball 2025: 1-17 (.056)
Softball 2025: 4-18 (.154)
THAT is what it takes to get fired in a non-revenue sport at UH based on recent history.
By contrast:
Baseball 2025: 12-17 (.414)
See the difference?
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting that Whitting’s recent teams have been good by any means. Obviously they have not. 12-17 is, of course, a losing conference record, and NOT a what we want or expect.
But it’s not EXTREME SUCKITUDE like those others, and recent history suggest that that’s what it takes to get canned around here in a non-revenue sport.
Given that….
DON’T COUNT on Whitting being fired, rightly or wrongly. It’ll be great if it happens, it would certainly be well-deserved, and I’ll rejoice if it does.
But DON’T count on it.
And if you are a betting man, then I wouldn’t put money on it.
