I wrote a similar email. It will be interesting to see if he responds. As Coogman stated, if he doesn’t make a move in Baseball, he is not legit. Nobody cares one iota about the other moves he has made this offseason. He will be judged by the big 3 sports.
First of all, our investment into WBB, if he hasn’t budgeted the baseball move, is ridiculous. Everyone thinks if they invest in WBB, it will suddenly explode. Much like the WNBA, no other sport loses more than WBB.
This is the first time I can remember Duarte writing a somewhat negative piece about TW. Hopefully, that article will help Nunez better understand there are people who care about the program. however, implying they can’t afford the $110,009 to pay off TW is a joke.
The baseball portal opens June 2 and closes July 1. This is one big reason why Rice and other schools acted early. We have no idea how many are entering the portal. A new coach can’t be left with just a few weeks to asssemble a team. That’s why I believe there are no changes made.
Well at least Duarte put it out there……in past years nothing was even said.
This hopefully doesn’t allow Nunez to hide about a decision.
And I don’t care how much we still owe football coaches, a Power 4 school that couldn’t afford a 110k buyout would be a huge embarrassment.
I don’t think that number should even be a factor in throwing the baseball program a lifeline.
You can say the same thing for the last 7 years……at some point you have to bite the bullet and do it……if the team sucks the first year because the new coach gets a late start so be it.
He’s coming Baccckkkk!!
Kendall Rogers reports it. TW is back with some personnel changes coming with the support staff.

Coog Morgue…errr…Park will be bursting at the seams next years with all the excitement
Yup.

I tried telling everyone here to NOT count on Whitting be fired, and to NOT put money on such a thing.
I hope that nobody did.
That said, yeah, it sucks. He certainly should have been fired long ago.

Can’t wait for all those barn burners vs SWAC, UIW, UTRGV, Lighthouse for the Blind…etc
Like I’ve been saying the past few yrs, if the AD and the admin, and the powers that be don’t care about the program (and they don’t) why should I.
I haven’t gone to a game, watched or listened to a game over the past few yrs (and I had season tickets for yrs). Looks like things will continue to stay the same for me until someone over there decides to get rid of TW.
Money. New coach and assistants would be way more costly. Plus, Coogs have probably spent around 10 mil with NIL and Sampson’s new contract. Throw in the 20+ million salary cap, I would guess we are tapped. Donor fatigue as well. This decision definitely was not Nunez’s alone.
Really disappointed they couldn’t figure it out.
He only has one year left on his contract, if I’m not mistaken. Makes sense for him to come back and coach that last year left.
The main focus, for now, is Football, MBB, and WBB.
We are a poverty athletic program that can’t afford a $133,000 buyout
I honestly think the Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers and Hailey Van Lith noterities reversed this effect. The WNBA seems to be booming and Tilman wants to bring the Comets back to Houston.
More “personnel” changes. At some point, you’ve got to look higher up. I think we’re past that point.
If the alumni really wanted a change they could just fundraise $110,000 for the buyout and whatever it would cost to bring in a new coach
Yeah, Nunez just took an F on a test grade.
They could offset $100K just by getting fans to come to the games for a new coach next season. This is a net loss.
Whatever. I’ll support this program at the same level I support intramurals, because that’s what the administration is doing.
Another lost baseball season coming up. ![]()
It would interesting to know what the understanding is for 2026. Is the understanding that it will be Whitting’s swan song for sure? Or is the understanding that Whitting is coaching to extend his contract beyond 2026?
The next worry is that we’ll hear the “how can he recruit with one year on his deal” excuse to justify another extension or another bad year.
Pitiful.
