2026 is really Year 1 for Fritz

Any idea why? This is his first full season as a QB in college, so there’s a good chance he might be fatiqued or minor injury?

No idea. But he’s gotta get it under control, and until he does, his performance is on him. He’s not the only QB in the country that takes hits.

He is leaving tons of TD’s on the field. He is pretty much playing the opposite to how he played earlier in the season. An injury will explain it. While injured you have to physically adjust. That is the best explanation for me.

I admit, he’s had a BAD 3 game run.

Despite his difficulties, which have had a MAJOR impact lately, he’s under a LOT more pressure than your average QB.

And he wills himself above and beyond for all 4 quarters.

He’s the best option.

Would love to have seen his stats for the year with a better o-line.

Speaking of…

Who is the O-lineman that gets false starts (plural) every game?

Man, I’m sure he’s a great guy, but…

He’s put us behind the 8-ball more times than I can recall. …and he’s not limited to just false starts. He’s had a handful of just plain boneheaded penalties.

Will he be part of the group next year? Unless he makes a huge leap, I hope not.

We take sacks about as often, on a per-play basis, as Indiana, Vanderbilt, and Alabama do. It’s not all on the OL.

Saying that Weigman has been playing poorly the last few games is an understatement. He’s been playing like the most turnover-prone QB in the country, and has thrown as many INTs as some better QBs have thrown all season. He’s down a full yard per passing attempt. There’s a very good case to be made that his regression is the main difference between the version of this team that was 7-1 over their first eight games and the one that’s 1-2 over their last three.

6 INTs over 95 attempts is double the highest INT rate in the country among QBs on pace for 170+ throws. A decade ago, David Piland and John O’Korn got benched for better performances.

While that’s hard to dispute, I honestly believe he’s still the best option.

The other guys in that room just don’t have “it” IMO…

There’s just no way the guy is healthy. But fortunately, his legs still work.

Maybe he and Arch Manning got Freaky Friday’d, has anyone considered that?

And other than TT, it’s not like we were beat down in blowout losses.
A break here or there, or better execution on a play or two and we win these games.
Even that second TCU TD was very close to being deflected. The DB had his hand right there and somehow missed it.

Regarding the TO batter. We did get a lot of TOs. But most were like punts. There were a couple long INTERCEPTIONS. And even the fumbler went all the way down to our 11. It’s not like we recovered a fumble at their 30 or picked off a pass in the flat at midfield with a nice return. They were score stoppers for sure, but equivalent to punts.

If you watch the replay of the fumbled snap (and subsequent PI), the Center snapped the ball early. Weigman was not ready for it, and none of the other OLinemen even moved.

66 has had a tough go of it lately…lots of holds.sometimes he can hold his ground, but not moving his guy.

It’s sad at times that many do not believe the Coogs deserve to be asu of last year… instead “8 wins is pretty good for ole Willie…”

Heck, even Dana with his recruits in the aac could win 12 once, and he sucked…

Not sure I agree.

He had a pretty big exodus of starting talent. Dot, Golden, etc.

Always happens when there is a change of coaches.

What matters is the improvement for last year to this year.

And yes, there WAS improvement.

Given that, while I may criticize some of his in game decisions, I won’t say Fritz hasn’t done a good job of program building from year one to year two, and it’s far too early to say he isn’t the right man for the job.

Even Sampson had a sucky first season.

I dare you to say that was the wrong coaching hire based purely on season one.

Season one is hardly ever a good basis for drawing conclusions about any coach. Every coach is allowed ONE “freebie” sucky season. No coach should ever be judged on that basis.

That’s not the point, the point is that fans were skeptical based on the team’s performance from last year. Reasonable. Even the most optimistic were saying that a bowl game or winning season was all they expected. Reasonable also.

Not too reasonable given that a) we had such a huge loss of talent, AND more importantly b) EVERY NEW HEAD COACH IS ENTITLED TO ONE FREEBIE SUCKY FIRST SEASON.

It’s stupid to be skeptical based on that one freebie sucky first season.

I wasn’t skeptical of Sampson based on the same. That would have been unreasonable as well.

UH should be on a 5 minute plan, not a five year plan. I hope we’re on the right trajectory.

Good post.

It IS all about trajectory.

Willie has already stated, numerous times, he is building a program, not a Team.

That is what he does.

That is what he was hired to do.

That is what he is doing.

So unless you know someone with $50,000,000 laying around in a cookie jar, stop with the 5 minute plan thing.

It’s NOT a 5 minute plan, but that doesn’t mean it’s a 5 year plan either.

The trajectory, progress, momentum…. Call it what you want… is great.

He’s sticking to the plan. He’s getting the most out of what he’s got. He’s taking calculated risks. Some are paying off. Some are not. It’s Football. Overall, it’s going well.

Pretty sure having the consensus #1 recruit in the country stepping in to the program next season and the best recruiting class in heaven knows how long are good signs he’s not sitting around doing nothing…

Don’t tell me what to do, newb. You don’t understand the reference like most things UH. You’re not a UH fan, you’re a Fritz fan. We’ll be here after you and Fritz are long gone, so don’t tell us what to think or do.

Your post begged a question.

I answered.

I DID understand the reference.

I understand a LOT more than you want to believe I do. Using a “Texas-Style” reference…

This ain’t my first rodeo.

You didn’t like my response. That’s your prerogative. Not sure I could have been any kinder in my reply.

Discussion is what we do on this MB.

No reason to hate…

Try to enjoy the ride.
