2026 is really Year 1 for Fritz

By the way.

This is Willie’s 2nd year.

be careful, there are folks on this board who will jump down your throat for suggesting that Art Briles is anything short of God’s Most Perfect Angel.

Doesn’t matter, they took care of business and made the playoffs while we squandered ours with losses to WVU and TCU.

Plus if I see Tulane make the playoffs before Fritz does with Houston, then that says a lot.

SMU made the ACC championship in year one.

Oregon won the Big 10 in year one.

Longhorns made the SEC championship in year one.

Arizona State won the Big 12 championship in year one.

Not saying UH will beat Tech in a rematch or BYU but we didn’t help ourselves.

Hey, hey, hey. What’s your problem. Just be happy with 8 wins…

Only thing it says is that Fritz did a great job building up a Tulane program that was always a doormat in the CUSA and the American.

You really can’t compare what Sampson had to deal with coming in vs Fritz, plus it’s different sports.

Fritz came in with Big 12 conference, a new stadium, 5 star transfer in Weigman for 2025, access to NIL/transfer portal etc.

He was disgraced.

But he’s being given a 2nd chance and I wish him the best.

The situations are more similar than they are different. Fan support sucked for both. Both inherited rosters that were lacking talent relative to their conference mates. Both only had a partial recruiting cycle their first year and both got hit pretty hard by the portal.

I mean even with the Weigman comment, Sampson had Devonta Pollard who was a former 5 star. Both also took over when the program was in its second year in a new league that was considered a step up from our previous level of competition.

If we were in the AAC then yes I would be happy lol.

You mean the team he built is doing well…
Hmmm?

Tulane was a WRECK before Willie got there. He took an Team and turned it into a Program.

He always leaves places MUCH better than he found them. So I’m not sure what your point is?

He’s in year 2 at UH. He’ll make the playoffs. He will likely do more than just “make” the playoffs. He’s also turned several programs into NC Contenders.

Time will tell at UH, but he’s clearly on the right path to do it again…

This…

So if we were in a worse league, playing a weaker schedule you’d be happy with 8 wins? I kind of doubt it given much people hated Major and TL but maybe you were in the small camp of people that didn’t want them fired.

I hated Levine and Applewhite equally as I felt the administration made a lazy hire for both.

It doesn’t matter who the coach is since I have been a fan, they all have multiple bad moments including Fritz.

Fritz’s 2nd year has it easier than the criticism I gave to Sumlin, Levine, Herman and Applewhite in their 2nd year.

But you said you’d be happy with 8 wins in the American so why on earth would you be unhappy with Levine or Major? Lol

It’s the falloff after a hot start they had in their 2nd season that made me disappointed/angry similar to this season.

But that seems to be every coach since Sumlin was here.

Hate to tell you this but Sumlins 2nd year we started off 8-1 and then finished 2-3 down the stretch.

Exactly, it is Sumlin’s fault that started this domino effect and each coach that followed him lol.

Thankfully Fritz has not had a loss that cracks the top 5 most disappointing losses for UH football since 2010.

  1. 2016 at Navy with Herman
  2. 2011 vs Southern Miss in the C-USA championship with Sumlin
  3. 2014 vs UTSA for the stadium opener with Levine
  4. 2016 at SMU with Herman
  5. 2023 at Rice with Holgorsen

As someone who lived through both, I’m putting Texas State 2012 over Navy 2016. Navy was a good team with a notoriously gimmicky offense on the road in a monsoon. Texas State, we just wet the bed against a team we should have walked over.
