I think you are selling McCarty short with your starting lineup…the kid is going to really good.
But if Mercy makes that much improvement I love the competition…

The NBA lottery is littered with possibilities and has been for sometime. Many of which never amounted to anything at the NBA level.

Every case and decision has its own identity. I will take the conditioning, development and physical maturation for an extra season(s) in the Sampson culture over the G League experience for many of those cases.

Lmao… the actuarial stats says otherwise. As great as our program is it doesn’t come close to the player development departments that NBA teams run with a budget solely dedicated to that that dwarf what we spend on UH men’s basketball. Let’s not be delusional. We’re not somehow better at developing NBA players than NBA teams. Y’all just be saying anything.

This is a delusional homer take.

Why did Hakeem son chose Stanford over Houston

He might not be good enough to play here?

Yes he is. Probably wanted to play right away & probably starts as a true freshman at Stanford where competition ain’t as big as in Houston for playing time. He probably had to take the Chase McCarty or Mercy Miller route here. Not play much as a freshman but by sophomore compete for rotation spot.

In addition, a chance for a paid Stanford education is hard to beat.

What does our team look like with our seniors and early declares leaving?

Transfer/alozie/kordel
Mercy/transfer
Harwell/bryce/chase
Jojo/chase/transfer
Arfan/mcfarland/lath

?

We look to have only 10 on next season’s roster as of today.

That would then require 4 to 5 transfers.

Sampson has not had that many transfers at UH ever, has he?

We’re still in the running for Caleb Holt per Jo.

That is indeed genius.

We need a proven scorer/shootet and PG regardless. I don’t mean to sound like a Debbie downer but I’m not convinced Our bench players will make the leap everyone is expecting. I do expect the current bench players to keep developing their games but none of them has proven anything on the big stage when it counts.

I’d like to believe Mercy can make a leap to a starting role next year but I’m not so sure. Harwell is another question mark. He’s clearing not 100% recovered and is dealing with nagging injuries so it’s hard to evaluate his performance. While it’s possible he turned into a good one, especially as a defender, I wonder if the transition from Idaho basketball to D1 was more difficult than expected. Hopefully he starts to knock down the jumper more consistently.

Then there’s McCarty. Solid defender and a showing flashes of having a beautiful touch from outside the arc. Is he just a shooter when left open or does he have the handles to take it to the basket? So far I haven’t seen him take it to the basketball much at all.

Overall my wish list is to bring a really good PG that can score along with the shooter to replace Sharp. Bringing in a guy like Dawes from Utah would be outstanding as well, regardless of what Tugler decides to do

I’m expecting us to add an elite transfer point guard in the portal that can really score since we lose almost all of our proven offense after this year. I’m also assuming Tugler comes back for his Senior year so that’s 2 of your starting 5 right there. After that, not sure what the plan is.

Is Arafan coming in with the expectation of starting? Would love him to come off the bench his Freshman season and us to go get a high quality transfer big in the portal to start next to Tugler. Will 2 of the 3 between Mercy, Harwell and Chase finally be ready for increased minutes/starting roles next year?

I think we do what we have to do and go out and get two really talented and experienced transfers to come in to replace Flemings at PG and Cenac down low and then we try to rely on our in house guys to fill in the vacancy left by Sharp and Uzan.

Potential Starting lineup:

  1. Transfer PG
  2. Mercy Miller
  3. Isaiah Harwell
  4. Joseph Tugler
  5. Transfer Big

6th man - Chase McCarty
