2026 Recruiting

Huh?

I’m saying this never ending string of excuses with little to show for it is exhausting when on the other hand, our very coach touts we have an abundance of talent in our back yard yet over the last 30 years we have 1 CUSA conference championship + 1 AAC conference championship + 1 NY6 bowl win since we were left out of the B12.

When CDH…all we heard was that we STOLE a P5 coach…watch out.

Then we got the “redshirt the whole team”

Then we had a 4 win season in year one of the Big 12 despite giving CDH the most resources EVER to a UH head coach + many years to rebuild which somehow put us in worse shape when CWF arrived.

And then thr same line…we need to rebuild BUT we have all this talent in our back yard…lol

Beginning to be the little boy that cried wolf.

We have a very easy schedule this year.

I have faith CWF will get us 8 wins!

We need to strive to be a national destination…like the schools we want to emulate…not just a regional option and in the most congested P4 region in the entire united states!

7 totalP4s. 6 in the Texas Triangle + Texas Tech

This is why a P4 path that allowed SMU into the club + failed to demote a single Texas P5 was the worst outcome for UH.

Our regional recruiting base, which we seem to live and die on, got more competitive…not less!

Tell us who you really are….you are like a bull in a china shop……you either got the boot and created this new profile……or you had such little respect you are trying to reinvent yourself with a new profile……either way you just are not a good poster……like, at all.

You flat out lied about me a couple of days ago with the “racist” comment…just flat making stuff up….then you are telling people they are “lazy” and “losers”….talk about glass houses.

Enjoy your time here……I don’t think you’re gonna last much longer at this rate……although. I guess you’ll just make another profile.

You’re right. We should get every kid we want even if we have to employ the old British navy method of press gangs. Never mind that they have free will and can go where they wish. Never mind that other teams pay more money, and always have been even when it was illegal. Never mind that everyone doesn’t grow up wanting to play for the Coogs. Never mind that our new facilities only catch us up to most other teams. Never mind that a whole lot of kids can’t wait to leave town and be away from their family problems and bad neighborhood influences. Yeah, we should always get whomever we want, to hell with reality.

You are joking, right? You need to put a sarcasm note in there somewhere.

you summed up my whole point , thank you!

  1. we are NOT a top pick for the highest level of talent in the Houston area and since they have free will we have to ask - How can we become a more attractive program!
  2. we should focus on kids that WANT to be Houston Cougars, regardless of the state or city they live in and find a way to win the games on our schedule. This “red shirt the entire team” give it 3 years for a rebuild is a bunch of BS.
Game plan to win the games in front of you, build momentum, and make your program more relevant nationally…right now, we are among the last 5 brands in all of P4.

And for the “i hope we win 5 or 6 games” crowd . I’m guessing many of you are the same people who think it is IMPOSSIBLE to amass a net worth of a million dollars by age 65.

Yes, I remember the droves of people who said it could not be done for XYZ reasons…lol
Geez…I didn’t know Houston Alums were so small thinkers…with no ambition…planning or vision so yeah…I think differently

We are getting out recruited by freaking Baylor and Texas Tech. [/quote]

How are we getting out recruited by Baylor and Tech? Our average ranking per recruit is second highest in the Big 12, only 0.3 points away from being first. And that is the 21st highest ranking in the country. Moreover, when it’s all said and done we just might end up in 1st in the Big 12 in average ranking per recruit.

As far as recruiting goes, very little has changed since the old SWC. We compete with Texas, A&M, Tech, Baylor, TCU and SMU and whatever out of state schools for the top kids. When our program is good, we get our share. CWF is just starting at Houston and is already doing a terrific job after only one year. What will he do after he puts a winner on the field? Very good indeed, i imagine. Whining about losing a player to Baylor or Tech is ridiculous on its face. We lose players to them, they lose players to us. We compete with them every minute of every day. Thats what recruiting in Texas is all about. Our school has only just gotten back into the same conference with them and equal footing. When all said and done, this will likely be a top 30 type of class for CWF. Remarkable considering the mess he inherited.

Eight of our fourteen commitments held offers from one or more of the Texas Big 12 schools, so we’re doing fine.

What were their recruiting class rankings over the last few years? I don’t think they were in the top 30.

Y’all remember all of the fearmongering that if UH and/or SMU ever got elevated to power conference status that it would negatively impact other Texas schools? That doesn’t appear to be the case when you look at current recruiting rankings. If anything it looks like there are more top Texas prospects staying in state and I think that’s a good thing.

I’d be curious to hear the opinions of fans of the “legacy” p4 Texas schools about this.

On Duarte’s post after Jayden Warren committed, a Texas Tech fan congratulated us on keeping Warren in the Big 12. Amost fell out of my chair.

Ok, it appears that the SMU oil barons couldn’t convince Warren to choose Smoo.

Good.

We have three of the top 25 players in the state. You’d have to go back nearly half a century, 48 years, to find another class that achieved that. And that year we were coming off a #4 national ranking.

Our rating is going to drop, but the other will likely as well. There’s not too many 4-star targets remaining, so unless most of the remaining commitments are rated 89+, we’ll be coming down a little bit. I wouldn’t stress though. Ratings aren’t guaranteed predictions. Players develop or aren’t rated correctly from the getgo. You can get 85’s to play like 95’s.

We always have had National Championship potential. The difference today is that uta, atm and U of H are not in a same power conference thus not controlling us anymore. The sleeping giant awakens.

Just a reminder, we still have JayShon Ridgle, Koby Young, and Boogie this year to team with Conner Weigman / Austin Carlisle. Also, hoping that Zeon realizes that’s he’s not a QB but can be a star at RB/WR. We don’t have to wait for 2026/2027 to enjoy watching our Coogs again. And trust me, watching our offense last season was FAR from enjoyable.

Two guys we are finalists with one other school for are Lakeyleon Graves (247 rating of 90) and Pulelei’ite Primus (247 rating of 88). We also have a chance—probably not a great chance but possible—to get Davian Groce (247 composite score of 98). I expect us to finish at or very near the top of the Big 12 in average ranking per recruit. We probably won’t sign as many as other league schools, so we might not finish in the top three overall.
