Combination of relationship vs Dollars?
Even better but money talks and bs walks. Give credit where credit is due. I am sure that these two and others are not coming for monopoly money. Warren is huge as well.
We have no clues how much money is changing hands. What is new is that we have for the first time in decades local and Texas players wanting to come to U of H. This is the worst case scenario for uta, atm and okie. Three on the boards? This tells me something major is brewing. These players would not choose us over you know who if they did not have some intel on who is coming next. We still have six scholarships to give I believe.
Yes, we are the exception to the new way of things. Just ignore the 31 transfers that left when he got here and the 25 transfers that left this year. It doesn’t make Coach a bad coach or a bad person, it doesn’t degrade our university. It is just part of it now.
Here’s a question, If Conner Weigman, a junior, does well and decides to stay for his senior year do you think Henderson will await his time like Arch Manning at UT?
From UH roster site:
Conner Weigman QB 6’ 3’’ 210 Jr. Cypress, Texas / Bridgeland HS
In today’s game that is next year’s issue. Who knows who transfers in or out. If Connor has a great year it means our offense was good which attracts more big transfers.
And I have read it on coogfans a lot, 5 star players don’t always play 5 star football. Remember, Case was a 2 star.
If Connor has a great year, he would probably go pro; but he may decide to stay. You never know these days.
Nah… he isn’t staying.
If Connor does well this season, he’s absolutely going to the NFL especially if he’s a first rounder projection.
If he even just has an average season, he’s likely to either transfer again, declare undrafted, or accept being the backup to Henderson.
I just don’t see any scenario where Henderson isn’t the starter next season given how highly recruited he is.
Did anyone tell Austin?
QB Competition.
Depth.
Austin is going to believe he will be the starter, and the staff is going to allow the competition to take place to prevent losing said depth.
Yeah, and I didn’t think Manning would wait a year either. But, you’re probably right; Conner will probably go pro. But you never know these days.
That’s what i believe in. Even the 5 Stars need to compete for the role
ehh… but Manning doesn’t really need NFL money.
Weigman is not poor by any means, but a ticket to the NFL is going to be his road to real riches, something that Manning obviously doesn’t need to worry about.
It’s almost the same situation as Mercy Miller for basketball. His dad is filthy rich, and therefore, he doesn’t have any rush to go to the NBA and can continue with his time at UH (words from Master P himself)
Coaches know best. Henderson is a smart player. There is nothing wrong being the back up to Weigman if he wants another year. Henderson can hugely benefit either way. Henderson is very raw. HCWF is perfect for him.
Lol, then they all left when Tom Herman left though Ed Oliver stayed.
UH can do better than 2016 recruiting. 2016 is the floor, not the ceiling. Coach Fritz is building UH’s recruiting back from Holgorson’s indifference. The foundation that Fritz is establishing will take off when recruiting success translates to wins on the field.
One brick at a time.
He’s saying that we didn’t lose first-year players. Actually we did, two of them, but we signed three four stars—Ridgle, Burnett, and Young—who didn’t play much and still are with the team. Of course a lot of players left after a coaching change; that’s to be expected. And we’ll undoubtedly lose some more, but I wouldn’t count on us losing all that many.
Good thing he’s still in HS trying to get better then.
I am saying we wont lose true freshmen who are top prospects after 1 year. Losing average players who dont play and probably arent going to play is a different story. Losing 3rd and 4th teamers happens a good bit because those kids want to play. Losing transfers is expected, as some guys dont fit or measure up to the culture we have now. Of all those guys, i regret ony 2. Golden at WR going to Texas, and the DL who went to Oregon. We are going to be a hell of a lot better team next year than we were 2 years ago. Thank you, CWF.
Willie (and the big NIL donors) are holding up their end of the bargain. Some facts to ponder as of today:
- Our average 247 recruit rating is the highest ever for UH on 247 (since 2001)… Our # 35 2016 class with Ed, D’Eriq, and others was 85.62. We are currently ranked #21 average recruit in the nation at 88.52.
- We are low in the overall rankings due to the number of recruits. For perspective SEC Miss St. is #36 due to having 25 commits with only one blue chip vs UH’s 3 blue chips and 14 overall commits.
- Of those 14, all are rated as P4 contributors up to long term NFL potential… In fact, we only have four rated 86 and one 85. From 247 “86-84 - These are the prospects that we don’t view as future NFL players, but can play – and start – at the Power 4 level
- UH has the 4th highest average recruit ranking outside the B10, SEC, and ND. Baylor, Clemson, and Miami are currently higher.
In short, unless you’re one of the boosters writing the big checks, be happy. We are making progress in a pro sports town. I look at most of the top 20 recruiting rankings and the university is the only thing in the area. Not a hard decision if I’m a larger business to have an Astro or Texans vs a UH player in a local commercial. Go Coogs!
It wasn’t a slight….what @92010Coogs said was factual……KH is uber talented and athletic, but he is still somewhat “raw” as a QB.
If he is good enough to start as a frosh he will….if he needs to sit and learn a year then even better IMO……this isn’t one and done like basketball.
Great perspective….great post.
