Former DL Chidozie Nwankwo wrestled in high school.
Nick Hardwick with the San Diego Chargers wrestled then went to play in the nfl as a center. Great player, he credits wrestling as the reason on why he made it as a pro.
I mentioned it before that all of our linemen ought to be in a wrestling *training week"
Good movie. Linda:heart:
3 time 5a champ. Saw him at the berry center and he was a force.

Our rating is going up. That is good news. A few early take away.
HCWF is doing a much better job than its predecessors. Out of all our commitments all come from Texas except for a few from Louisiana.
Now let’s go a bit deeper.
smu, tcu, teetech and baylor are heavily recruiting Texas. That was to be expected. On the other hand and this is a surprise to me. I might be 100% wrong but look at uta and atm recruiting.
atm has three five stars, none come from Texas.
uta has three five stars, only one from Texas.
We have one five stars and he is from Texas.
Let’s go even deeper.
Review both uta and atm recruiting.
atm has 27 recruits…only nine from Texas. 2025: 25 enrollees - 16 from Texas
uta has 21 recruits…only 10 from Texas. 2025: 25 enrollees - 15 from Texas
This is just 2025 vs 2026.
HCWF has done an amazing turn around in just a year. He is basically rebuilding our entire program from scratch. The main stat that “jumps” at me is that he is getting great “sales numbers” This is so encouraging for our future. HCWF fully understands that the clock is against us…and he is doing something about it.
UT and A&M recruiting nationally benefits us more when recruiting in state talent.
CWF will eventually need to recruit nationally if we ever want to even sniff championship conversation, but he’s doing an incredible job of rebuilding the program. If he’s here long term and establishes all of these local pipelines, we can at a minimum expect winning records every season.
Soon he will. 2027 may be more out of state prospects. Conference money plus nil with the new facilities will have UH someone to wreck with going into 2026. Mark my words. Oh yeah and winning cures everything!!!
We have guys from the portal from outside of Texas and Louisiana. In order to compete for good players nationally he must first get a good reputation nationally.
Recruiting Texas first and then Louisiana has always been our objective and CWF is doing a great job at it.
When he came in at the end of last season he did an amazing job of cobbling together a recruiting class after everyone else had picked over most of the players. The 2026 class is his first real shot at starting on an even playing field and he’s doing a great job.
Oldtimers can remember that Coach Yeoman mined smaller High Schools in Texas. Robert Newhouse is one of his greatest finds at a smaller High School.
Coach Fritz shows signs of this method. Keep it up!
Devil’s advocate. Outside of being a legacy, why would a highly rated national football recruit outside of Texas choose UH? The only reason in my mind is NIL. B12 Conference? My third choice behind
B1G and SEC. Facilities? Lots of schools have facilities. Fritz? Not a national name. Winning program? Not recently. City of Houston? Overrated.
NIL and winning program. UH is working on both.
just say NIL - lol - you can buy a team with the right money

I thought about this - in the Yeoman era they knew where the talent was and where they could only play at in the South so it wasn’t as hard as we may think - the hard part was convincing people to recruit them - you had major talent at Yates across the street that played everywhere else but UH but for some odd reason those schools never were in sync
Except they ARE choosing Houston. You cant say we cant do something when we are doing it!! Not this, not that? CMON! Tell it to Henderson, Melvin and the other great players who have committed to Houston.
Sorry Monte. Henderson and Melvin are Texas recruits. I said outside of Texas. I’m sure I will be corrected but the last highly rated football recruit UH signed was Deontay Greenberry.
What’s your definition of highly rated? Burnette and Ridgle were 4 stars.
Tanner Koziol may be the best TE in America. Had offers to play wherever he wanted. He is at Houston.
I disagree!!! Big time lol
High 4 and 5 star players. I’m happy that UH signed these players but those are the exceptions rather than the rule. I think if a B1G or SEC team really wants a player outside of Texas and that player has no UH ties, the likelihood that player chooses UH is very low. It will boil down to NIL for UH to get the player’s attention.
Honestly, I was surprised these guys were still on the table when CWF got here, were they previously Holgy recruits? Did CWF recruit them when he was at Tulane? I don’t know their situations, but regardless, CWF got them signed.
However, I totally understand JLCoog’s position. How many high school players in California, Ohio, New York, Michigan, Georgia, etc. know anything about UH other than vaguely or have even heard of CWF?
Going head to head against USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, etc. is a tall order, not insurmountable, but hard cheese*. We have been able to beat out some of those teams for players, but the ones for the 2026 recruiting class are local players. As we become more successful and nationally ranked, we will probably see more of these types.
