What makes you think it can’t work today?
This is when you need to look at power conferences vs g5.
We were in a power conference until about 1996.
Even though we were on probation and with a reduced roster in 1991 we finished 10-1. Do you realize what this means? What Mr. Yeoman was doing was highly effective. This is why uta with the ncaa help fomented to get us on probations multiple times. This is also why we were conveniently discarded to c-usa.
Why does this matter today?
Keisean is the prime example of it and wait what happens? Some are telling this is the best recruiting class ever.
What HCWF is doing is mimicking Mr. Yeoman recruiting strategy with his own twist. The biggest difference from the Yeoman, Pardee and Jenkins era? uta can’t do a damn thing about our recruiting.
Just be a bit more patient. We all could be in with sleeping giant waking up all pissed off.
I hope it does but we couldn’t even take a collection of Houston’s Best G5 recruits to dominate CUSA or AAC level talent…we are talking against schools like ECU or USF or Temple
I’m in the minority in believing we sit in a state with SEVEN P4 programs all vying for the top recruits in the Texas metros with the SAME in-state pitch and we should pivot and target top markets OUT OF STATE and be a unique Texas option for them.
Make going away to school in Texas something they get excited about doing.
We then differentiate ourselves and hopefully land a few more top recruits that would be hard to get in a highly competive Texas market.
Maybe we don’t have to target ALL states but there is talent in Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh & Philadelphia), Ohio (Cleveland, Cincinnati & Columbus) and North Carolina ( Raleigh & Charlotte) where a Texas school could be an interesting option
We flipped a TCU commit, Keisean is coming and we are gaining recruiting “market share” That has not happened since Mr. Yeoman recruiting. This type of recruiting has a snow bowl effect. We have sunny skies ahead of us.
I mentioned it before. We have a ton of past programs players in pretty much all over the National map. How do we do from that point of view? Phillip Rivers, ex-San Diego Chargers is a High School football coach. Do you think he can convince a few players from his area in Alabama to go to NC State? I would argue he could.
Enrico does not seem to realize that past Head Coaches did a lousy job of recruiting our natural area, which is why we have lacked success.
Yeoman did a great job. After that, not so much.
Fixing this recruiting problem is the number one job that Fritz can correct.
Our past coaches failed at recruiting, which then created our won-loss records.
You are 100% right. Some of us realize what it meant going from a power conference to a g5.
We all live in an instant moment. What our administration and ticket office does not realize is that they could use our pre SWC and and SWC timeline to our advantage.
What HCWF is doing is giving us a ride:
,Austin Carlisle is Marty McFly.
Austin Carlisle probably runs like a 4.35. I think he’s a slam dunk future NFL slot receiver like Wes Welker if he chooses to go that route. Sprint speed. At 5-10 i think he can kill it at the college level as a QB, tho with Fritz at helm.
He’s WAY faster than Welker, though.
He reminds me of Christian McCaffrey or even…LaDainian Tomlinson. These three have an amazing “Plaid” type acceleration and a knack for finding “invisible” routes.
I agree
Trust me if everyone had equal across the board college sports wouldn’t look like it does now as allegiance and fit would be the primary criteria
The best example is church - the one institution that cultures seem to hold on to is church and that would be the best example of what the ncaa would look like if everyone had the same deck of playing cards
Look, Kim Helton…recruiting out of state collectively doesnt work for Houston. Our best teams are when we do a good job recruiting Texas players. CWF knows and understands this. His latest class already has several commits from really great players in Texas. Top 20 in the state kind of guys. We are Big 12 now. We no longer are recruiting with a distinct disadvantage against schools like Baylor, TCU, Tech, Okie State. We win battles all the time now. We are even capable of taking players from Texas and Aggie. Just look at Henderson, Melvin… We will take guys occasionally from out of state, but we focus on Texas and Louisiana kids. Thats just good sense.
Anyone want to guess how many of players on the current roster are from Georgia?
About 25 players
The state of Texas has one National Championship in almost 50 years so your “that makes sense” has yet to equate to Many conference championships for UH nor National Championships for our Texas Schools.
In fact, many states that DO have National Championship heavily recruit OUT of their state…including Texas.
All im saying is why overpay for highly competive Texas, or Louisiana recruits as you mentioned when there might be GREAT recruits in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, Washington, etc…that may WANT to go AWAY to school in Texas.
In the NIL era…Value for our $$$$ becomes very important…why over pay for highly recruited Texas kids?
One word:
IDENTITY
Talent is everywhere.
DFW is loaded and for those players going to UH is,indeed, going away to College.
Many of them go to Tx Tech for that reason.
UH also is going away for College to players in Austin, San Antonio. Midland-Odessa, on and on.
If we make a list of our Alltime best starting 22 we would see a Texas High School, player at virtually every position.
So we arguing over recruiting more outside of Houston while the current roster has more than 1/4 of the players from Georgia and Louisiana
Davian Groce announcing today. Fingers crossed!
Do you know what time he is supposed to announce?
Anywhere except Baylor please.
