You make it seem as if UH’s QB situation next year is routine. It’s not. It’s a unique, anomaly type of situation.
If it was any athlete other than Keisean (a 3 star or even 4 star QB) that was coming into the program, then all the arguments in this thread would be valid.
That’s not the case here. Keisean could literally go to any school he wants at this point, yet he’s choosing to come to UH. However, if you think that means he’s going to sit out without the chance to compete, then you’re naïve.
But that’s not even the predicament here. The predicament is if Connor Weigman is willing to risk his final year in a competition.
Experience alone is not going to win the battle. While Connor had a great year that resulted in a 9-3 record, he didn’t do enough that gurantees him to be QB1 next year should there be a competition. If Connor Weigman was the savior of the program going into 2026, then we wouldn’t even be having this conversation because he would already have draft stock.
Connor was a 5 star recruit out of HS. Yes. We know this. However, his career did it pan out like a typical 5 star QB. He had injuries (which some including myself believe he’s injured as we speak), and he has consistency issues.
Our program is not going to be successful with “a win is a win” strategy. Eventually, we need to start WINNING games.
I don’t see a true freshman, no matter how talented, that doesn’t know the scheme and has never played at a level beyond the private high school level, coming in and beating out an established SR QB, especially one as productive as Weigman was this year.
I’m not naive at all. And the situation isn’t unique at all. CW is a grown man. He’s uber-talented in his own right. And he’s the incumbent starter on a team that defied all expectations, specifically because of his play.
If you think the footing is equal between the grown man and the freshman, then you’re naive. If you think CWF is going to forget what CW did for this program, then you are naive.
Every year across the country talented kids come into established programs. Obviously they come to compete. You apparently think because he’s the #1 recruit in the nation, he was told he’d start. He wasn’t. If you think the freshman doesn’t have a mountain to climb to displace CW, then frankly, you’re dumb as a stump.
His #1 status doesn’t help him read defenses, learn the playbook, or adjust to college life and responsibilities. All of which CW is obviously capable of at a high level.
You can bet both Weigman and Henderson know exactly what is going on…and I am sure so does Carlisle.
My guess is that none of the three have been left out in the cold concerning Fritz’s plan.
Maybe Weigman portals? Maybe he does not and Henderson comes in knowing he will have to play behind a seasoned quarterback.
Maybe Carlisle moves to defense or receiver.
It is all speculation at this point…so just kick back and see what happens…
I read on this board or TOS that he will be signing Friday. I don’t know why he’s waiting but it could be because he and classmates are signing for their respective teams at the same time and have a ceremony planned. It also could be that he is waiting for someone special to him to be able to attend his signing ceremony.
