I have mixed feelings about Mark Milley based on something that occurred when he came to the Pacific Armies Management Seminar in 2015.
I won’t go into any details, but he made a not so great first impression on many of my USARPAC colleagues.
As for Mattis, I don’t know a heck of a lot about him, but I agree that we need allies, and I agree with Mattis that Trump seemed to do a good job of pissing off a lot of them.
In some cases, as in the case of Germany today, that’s somewhat understandable.
But in others, it’s not. Trump tended to go a bit too far in that regard. And trust me, the media and “the Swamp,” or the “deep state,” whatever the Hell they might be (assuming they even exist…I’ve always thought that talk like that was looney tooney) didn’t cause that. Trump did.
In the end, GEN Milley’s signature is on my military retirement certificate, and Donald Trump’s signature is on my retirement Certificate of Appreciation, so hey…their names will always be present in my office for me to look at, whether I like it or not!

Hey listen, we don’t need a permission slip from other countries, and what they think doesn’t always matter.
But Trump really did disillusion many US allies. Whether Mattis is a sell-out or not to China doesn’t change that. He’s not incorrect in saying that about Trump.
As for Trump being an amazing economic success; the economy was doing well BEFORE COVID…after COVID hit, in no small part due to Trump calling it a “hoax” and not taking it seriously until it was too late…the economic took a hard crash.
His tariffs did nothing except provoke retaliatory tariffs. They didn’t bring manufacturing or any other industry back to the USA. If anyone thinks so, then I’ve got some oceanfront property in AZ I’d like to sell them.
