BIG 12 FOOTBALL & HOUSTON PREDICTIONS

The biggest improvement UH can make that will improve QB play is for the OL to come together and play well. That is still a huge question mark.

Our defense which ranked near the bottom nationally also needs a lot of improvement.

Problem: only two starters return.

Fritz has to find a way.

We CANNOT afford a 2-4 win season, especially after last year’s train wreck which STILL got us 4 wins.

2-4 wins will decrease our fan base even more.

CWF must do whatever it takes to secure 6 wins and get to a bowl game…UNLV and Rice have to be automatics. A middle of the road P4 squad easily wins those 2. So, then, we need 4 more wins.

He’s even said in interviews, this is NOT a rebuild…he MUST win immediately

I, for one, thinks he can.

Yes…last under a HORRIBLE DC with HORRIBLE schemes (3rd and Belk!) and under a HC that admitted my staff only works the bare minimum, like him.

Think big folks! Gonna be a great season!

True that Holgerson was coach but saying “they” implies these are the same players. Only one starting OL returns. Not one starting DL returns. Only one starting WR returns. In other words, we have a lot of unproven players so it’s hard to predict how much more successful we’ll be based on coaching alone. I DO think we’ll see progress as the season plays out.

My prediction: I think the team starts off slowly and possibly losses to an experienced UNLV team them plays OK close in a loss. From there I think we upset a few teams like Utah, KSU, or AZ. We beat Rice, Cincy, Baylor, and possibly play for an opportunity to go bowling with a win at BYU.

Unproven players that CDH “redshirted” because they had potential.

Anyone think Herman’s squad as an unproven HC, in year one, was good enough to beat a school that made the Final Four the previous year?

Well it happened…and the difference was Coaching.

Im not ecpecting a playoff bid but id be disappointed with less than 6 wins.

That’s a feasible 2 win improvement…can totally happen!

Not a problem. We got plenty of starters from other teams. Wood will have them flying.

The last few years I have had high hopes for our DBs, based on the DBs brought in. Overall, I have been disappointed in DB play. Out-of-position, technically unsound, on the smallish side. I’m tempering my hope for UH’s DB play until I see them in an actual game.

Lets see what better coaching can do

Interesting on the UNLV. I think it being first will favor the Coogs. Three main reasons: UNLV will have no tape on this team, UH has a higher talent level, excitement for the new regime by the players.

I expect one half to be bad and one half to work well where they pull ahead. Humidity may also be a factor in the game as UNLV is dry heat and it is August.

Or what, fire him?

In due time…yes …just like CDH’s rebuilding plan flatlined…but we will lose another huge chunck of fans in the process which we CANNOT afford to do.

He needs to try to win as many games as possible…no holding back…no planning for tomorrow. We do NOT have that luxury right now.

6 wins is a VERY low bar!

Here is his track record at Tulane.

Year 1: 4 wins
Year 2: 5 wins
Year 3: 7 wins
Year 4: 7 wins
Year 5: 6 wins
Year 6: 2 wins
Year 7: 12 wins
Year 8: 11 wins

He is starting his career at Houston with a veteran QB so hopefully he can start somewhere between his year 2-3 pace, which puts us at 6 wins.

That is not an unreasonable goal.

Tulane was a bigger rebuild than our situation.

In 2015, they were 3-9 against AAC schools. We lucked into 4 wins vs Big 12 schools and a previous year G5 Champion, UTSA

It is going to come down to the Offensive Line. Is our OL an average B12 OL, above average or below average. I don’t know but we will find out soon enough

Saying we are going to win 2, 3, 4 games…WHAT!!!

Have a little faith in our coach!

Luckily, we have a veteran QB and are stacked at playmaker positions.

Tempo helps with an average oline IF you have a competent QB + playmakers…which we do.

About the defense…doesn’t the whole Big 12 Conference have a reputation for having subpar defenses?

We need to win the shoot outs and the ugly victory type of games

I wouldn’t exactly or necessarily call that hate.

How else would you take it…
1)we do NOT play in the SEC
2) we won 4 games last season

I expect an improvement, with better coaching, NOT a step back!

People are saying CWF will do worse than CDH…what!

I’d call it pessimism before I’d call it hate for a coach who as yet to coach a game here.
