That’s a good point. I would say most on this board have a serious issue with the Whorns. Yet many will still watch them. Why? To root against them. To hope they lose. Don’t we all take a perverse pride in seeing that the Whorns have lost? But the bottom line is they still watch them. Kansas may be in the same boat when it comes to basketball. Some enjoy watching David win. Some enjoy watching Goliath lose.
I agree with most of your points. It’s important for Kansas to maintain their image as an elite basketball program, much in the same way North Carolina and Duke represent the AAC.
The one thing I would point out about NL and transfers, though, is that NIL transfers don’t always work out, as evidence by the Kansas team. Sometimes teams look good on paper but in reality they still need to work as a cohesive unit, which is on the coach.
Matter of fact, when I saw all the players transferring to Kansas last year, I thought they would challenge Houston as the top dog in the B12. We saw how that turned out.
While the NIL is a tool used by teams to upgrade their talent, it doesn’t always translate into success. You still need good coaching, and the B12 has some top notch coaches. So long as the B12 schools are able to retain their coaches I think there’s a good chance the B12 remains one of the best conferences in the country.
Ummm… whuuut?
Magic Johnson ceiling… way to keep expectations realistic…
Oh you betcha! @ehog will vouch for that.
We tease but we love our Minnesotans. I would say where I’m from, culturally everything from Ames going north until you get the the Twin Cities is basically identical. We probably have more in common with southern Minnesotans than southern Iowans.
But we certainly don’t say hot dish and grey duck. Trivial but funny difference.
I wonder how far west “hot dish” goes? Is Williston the Hot Dish Mason-Dixon line?
Williston is a bunch of people that grew up somewhere else. Who knows what they would say
I’m sure Demin could be the number 1 pick and then win an nba championship his first year
Career Plus/Minus leaders. This stat is only tracked going back about 15 years or so. But thought you would find some of these names interesting. That’s how good Hason Ward was at what he did. Just owned the paint on D, grabbed rebounds at a prolific rate, dunked everything. Also covered so much ground on rotations. Maybe the most underrated big in ISU history IMO, especially because we only used him basically for 1 year.
- Hason Ward, 2022-23 to 2023-24 10.0
- Tyrese Haliburton, 2018-19 to 2019-20 9.9
- Tyrus McGee, 2011-12 to 2012-13 9.8
- Tamin Lipsey, 2022-23 to 2024-25 8.9
- Monte Morris, 2013-14 to 2016-17 8.6
- Curtis Jones, 2023-24 to 2024-25 8.1
- Aljaz Kunc, 2021-22 to 2022-23 6.6
- Keshon Gilbert, 2023-24 to 2024-25 6.5
- Deonte Burton, 2015-16 to 2016-17 6.5
- Georges Niang, 2012-13 to 2015-16 6.4
Both Demin and Magic averaged an assist per 5 minutes as freshman.
Demin has a ton to work on but he has uncanny vision.
The ceiling is still sky high at this point.
I was thoroughly unimpressed with the Russian kid. I don’t think he’ll ever be an AS level player in the next level.
He’s back
UCF beats Vill last night in OT to get to the CBC final
Any bball junkies, they play today at 4:30 for the CBC title today
Interesting is that UCF has been without 6 players who went on the portal and beating teams at mostly full strength
Darius Johnson has been going nuts, 31 last game to beat a full strength Cincy, and 42 yesterday vs Villanova… he is making sure he is leaving with something
But have you seen their gymnastics squad?
Looking at this, BY has to be pretty happy with most the new teams.
We’re keeping Big 12 basketball as top tier. Sampson with a great shout out to the Big 12. Second video is Heartland talking about how important this was for the Big 12
If UH can turn football around and maintain that type of revenue for basketball, it becomes well positioned for the next realignment period. UH will pay for itself in added revenue.
So this year the first four adds will get $19 mill + $4 mill, everyone else gets $39.8 + $4 mill.
Next year with the new contract all schools get ~ $50 mill plus bowl/tourney payouts.
Edit: just remembered tourney credits are payed out over 6 years - so its last 5 cumulative plus this years divided by 6.
