I hear from people who say winning cures everything, I guess not in this case.
Winning doesn’t solve our lack of NIL or ability to provide a private jet to recruit.

Those get flown in from Alaska on a private jet
Couldn’t we just spend half of $50+ million a jet costs on NIL deals and get these recruits without flying around?
Look for a school that is looking to upgrade their private jet and buy the used one for a fraction of the cost of a new one.
Similar to UH’s old scoreboard that came from Texas A&M.
A rant that I’ll probably end up deleting…
I’m just trying to figure out what did people realistically expect? Is there any part about this Big 12 experience that is a surprise?
Everyone knew we had/have a fickle fan base.
Everyone knew our donor base was small.
Everyone knew our list of mega donors was tiny.
Everyone knew NIL was coming along with the STRONG likelihood that pay for play was coming.
Everyone knew the cost to compete in the Big 12 was significantly higher than life in the AAC.
Despite all of this school leadership, including a certain multi billionaire donor, fought to get into the Big 12. My question is why push for the Big 12 if the mega donors weren’t willing to see this transition through? Knowing all of our flaws, I assumed the plan was to carry UH through the transition and use the increased exposure/relevancy to grow and mature the fan base until we could carry the load.
I totally agree with holding the “average” fan accountable for lack of consistent attendance, but these complaints about NIL, and now a private jet, are being laid at the feet of average fans. Did school leadership and mega donors really expect the average fan to fund these things?
When the Big 12 invited UH I thought to myself, “wow, I guess the big money donors are serious about funding UH at the highest level.” I laughed at the idea that anyone other than UT, OU, and maybe Tech/Baylor could fill up TDECU unless the coogs had it rolling. Houston is a pro sports town and college sports doesn’t draw well unless a consistent winner and/or powerhouse brand is involved.
And to be clear I don’t think CKS is blaming message board posters for this PJ issue. I think I’m just getting tired of the constant crying on UH message boards about not having enough money. We are the die hards. Most of us are doing what we can to support the program and we’re still being blamed for “lack of NIL”.
And apparently we’re not supposed to expect any of our multi billionaire donors (I read on here that we have a few) to fund these things because they’ve been asked to fund other projects.
Knowing what we know now I honestly don’t understand why we are in the Big 12. If school leadership said that they didn’t pursue the Big 12 because we couldn’t afford it and didn’t have a strong enough fan base to support the move then what complaints could we have possibly made?
I miss the days when we were only blaming each other for attendance issues…
More money more problems
A lack of old money alums and generational fans are kicking us right now.
We didn’t address this issue when the grads of the 70s/80s/90s sent their kids to other schools.
He’s clearly not happy. He gone. Suspect this is his last season here.
Someone’s throwing him a tonne of money. I suspect it the school in Austin. They’d but him two jets , just for kicks.
He’s clearly the same as he’s ever been
Hey Mods can we start a Coogfans inferiority category
Coaches will always complain about lack of NIL just to get the donors and fans to contribute.
If Saban had to retire because of it, then you know it does more harm than good.
OU may have a jet but they are just now getting a new hoops arena. 20+ years after CKS was there.
I don’t think anyone besides Kansas has unlimited funds dedicated to hoops.
Outside of the Blake Griffin, Trae Young, and Buddy Hield years, does OU really care about basketball?
They renovated their football stadiums more times than basketball.
They have plans for a new arena.
I flew on a commercial flight with Rudy T from Houston to LA. He had just been hired by the Lakers.
So the city of Norman is footing the bill for OU? That is pretty nice
Maybe I can help, lemme check my bank account real quick…
… nope.
I can go halvsies on a one way spirit economy ticket for him if anyone else is interested.
How many recruiting trips are we talking about? Renting would seem like the natural solution for now.
This is also why it’s imperative that we start building more student engagement so they continue to attend games post grad. Gotta start seeing consistent y/y growth.
Must be pretty often if what Duarte wrote is correct about a basketball only plane. Maybe he meant to write it’s for athletics.
Why does he even have to ask for anything?
The admin should be asking him every day what he needs. And then they should give him whatever the hell he say he needs after their conversation.
I won’t turn this thread into another Tilman rant.
Because we don’t have unlimited funds
