If the state of Texas produced quality youth basketball players similar to youth football, maybe CKS wouldn’t have to fly as much all over the country to recruit great players.

Texas kids attend private schools in other states (IMG Academy, Monteverde Academy) in Florida. Academies in Arizona, Utah, Missouri, etc

Very rarely are local top 50 talent staying at their HS school. They’re playing at academies

With basketball its 2-3 players per recruiting class. So good chance you gotta recruit nationally.

I don’t know for sure, but I would believe that private charter as needed would be less expensive than owning a jet and having pilots on standby. Not like it would be used daily
 would it?

Shead, Cryer, Elvin, Grimes, Sasser, etc were all in state.

Guys like Jarace Walker, Sharp, Jarreau were out of state.

I don’t see schools on the east coast complaining about not having a plane to recruit.

Money money money money money money money money money. Every major conversation about college sports boils down to this.

Sorry, Coach. I’m about tapped out. I can contribute a few bucks (less than a drop in the bucket) to a plane fund, but this is getting outlandish from many athletics departments across the country.

Season tickets and the Cougar Pride donation are not cheap. Then the NIL folks stir up a fear campaign for a separate fund to “keep our guys.” I can buy a jersey or T-shirts with a player’s name or image on it, but I cannot pay for them to get a $5,000 piece of jewelry. I assume most people on this board do what they can. I love UH Athletics, but there’s a cap for everyone on that generosity.

@tcoog i think Dallas, Houston, Austin are very good recruiting areas.

But what if you need size & there’s not great local big men. Gotta recruit elsewhere

Football recruiting & basketball recruiting i think are different, if your point is just recruit locally

Basketball players are genetic freaks. 6 8" with 40" inch verticals. Those dont grow on trees

I don’t hear about coaches on the east coast complaining about not having a plane to recruit basketball players.

I can understand places like Kansas, Iowa State, Arizona as they are in the middle of nowhere.

I know CKS at Oklahoma needed one as there isn’t much local talent, but did he need one at Indiana?

Harwell is from Idaho. Plays in Utah.

Peat is in Arizona.

Burries is in CA.

Clark transferred to Link Academy. Is in MO.

We’re recruiting on a national level now. Give the coach every resource he needs versus handcuffing him.

Honestly, I think Houston is overrated when it comes to high school basketball. Dallas is the jewel in the state. There’s a reason the top guys in our city leave the city, for the most part.

Wouldn’t pain me at all if we stopped playing football. Means more resources for the basketball team. I know, I’m very much in the minority.
