Coog Baseball Portal

The guys that are reopening their recruitment look to me like guys that are going to be wanted by other high D1 programs.

I can’t say I’m surprised. I presumed Todd’s best signees, and current players that had good seasons, would want to go back on the market. Those guys have no prior relationships with the new staff (most of the signees had been committed for well over a year).

I expect this staff to get their footing and bring in good players. We’ll see.

I can’t fault anyone that committed under the assumption that they were going to play for the coach that recruited them from changing their minds once that coach is gone.

Sad that we’re losing some prospects of that talent level though.

Also, everyone was completely done with Todd, which I understand.

But as such nobody gave a crap about who he had signed. No point in getting upset now. What did we think would happen? This is what happens with regime change.

It was the same way with Dickey. Didn’t matter that he sucked and was a failure as a coach. He had still signed several talented players like House and Thomas that left when he resigned, and that left the cupboard pretty bare. Those guys went on to great success elsewhere.

Just sucks that we are facing a similar problem in baseball now.

Lets see if he brings in better players than Todd

Todd recruited most of these guys over 2-3 years. That’s a tough ask for a guy that’s been on the job for a week.

Beyond this year, obviously we all hope he does better than Todd. Especially pitchers.

We lost a ton when CWF took over the football program and this is just the reality with the portal when a new coach takes over. I guess he has a blank slate to bring in his own guys now.

Not sure what to make of that. So many interpretations.

No clarification on this guy yet.

Straw man.

I didn’t say squat about a week.

How long would you allow?

Anyhow, best of luck to the Burton Panthers, from here in Washington County, who will be playing for the 2A Division II state title tonight.

I wonder if there are any college baseball prospects on that team!

Funny!

Blake Fields to Portal…

In 2A?

Very doubtful….every now and then you kid like the outfielder at UT who is from Hallettsville….

Or , our very own Ryan Wagner who was from Yoakum.

Both those schools are currently 3A….but guys like this are anomalous cases….

Most guys in small schools are playing multiple sports at a lower level.

The large majority of high D-1 players come from 6A and 5A programs….most of these kids are playing year round, getting lessons, etc.

I kinda figured that, but ya never know.

I’ve seen A, AA, and AAA players get recruited to UH as football players and become starters or major contributors.

Josh Lovelady, Wilbert Brown, and Paul Hearn Jr., are a few that come to mind.

Obviously those aren’t typical, but it happens. I’d imagine it happens, albeit rarely, in baseball as well.

Jack Pardee became an All-American at aTm and later an All-Pro in the NFL, not to mention an NFL head coach, out of six-man football in Texas.
