Where are you seeing the '24 Roster?

How could they bring back some of these pitchers?
Struggle to get a single out vs AAC teams & now its The B12.
Just guys who don’t get shelled by Southland/SWAC type teams is a start.
Started to check out the new guys but it can wait till after MLB.
Easy Sampson….how many top guys, especially pitchers are itching to come play here?
If my count was right we have 48 players on the roster. I thought D-1 roster limits were 40 players and 32 players can receive the 11.7 scholarships.
So does that mean 8 of the players will be cut before the spring and 8 if the remaining are considered walk ons?
In D1 baseball, you can have as many players as you want on the team in the fall. At the semester split, it has to be paired down to 40. It is a ridiculous rule for College Baseball, especially when you consider that there are only 11.7 scholarships. Houston has way too many players in the fall, but they are nowhere near the worst. I believe LSU has 78 on their fall roster and am told Arkansas has close to 85. OU also has a ton of players as well. Since there is only 11.7 scholarships, schools should be limited in the amount of players they bring into the program in the fall. This has turned into a joke!
You ought to see how many some of the Juco’s bring in….ridiculous why any kid would even go.
Cisco used to be really bad about this. And they would cut a bunch of guys after the first couple weeks of practice in the fall, which really sucked for those guys.
It’s why I always steer my guys away from Juco….I’ll work on getting them to a D-2 if needed.
Also, Back in the day there used to be some really stout NAIA schools that could compete with D-1’s….not anymore.
Are there any newcomers on that list that really stand out?
#JUCOBANDITS…I am very pro-JUCO. Way too many kids buy into the D1 or bust mentality. In reality way too many have no business starting off at a D1 where they’ll just be shagging balls and picking splinters out their backside and then transfer out after year or two. Buds that played pro ball said if kid can handle JUCO he can handle anything. There are tough some drawbacks as Pollard points out like 75-85 going into fall camp and even if make it through that you have D1 cuts coming in after Holiday break. If I would have had to pay for sons education I would have sent him to one of the many fine D2 schools but military benefits required he go to a Texas public college. Playing JUCO helped prepare him for the grind ahead. Injuries brought the Baseball Journey to an end but he’ll leave school as a Mechanical Engineer and debt free so guess it all worked out in the end
Not to quibble, but there are a number of public D2 schools in Texas, as well as a couple of D3 publics.
Some JUCOs do a great job of preparing guys for the next level, but there are a bunch that don’t really care, and they don’t get them ready academically, either. You just really have to be careful and dig around for information.
But I agree that way too many kids fixate on D1 to their detriment, for various reasons.
I’m glad it worked out for your boy.
But the majority of Juco’s I’ve come across, which is most of them in Texas, are not a good fit for most kids….Most of the kids I coach and have coached have pretty decent grades so getting into a private or public is not an issue….I have also seen some really good ball players go Juco, not because they didn’t have the talent but they didn’t have the grades for the D-1 they wanted to go to.
And I never send a kid to D-1 unless I think he is good enough to get playing time….
If he isn’t I talk to parents about D-2’s and doing well there and transferring if warranted….I’ve had three or four move up to D-1 and play after starting D-2.
I even had one kid that started at a D-3 here in Texas, grew quite a bit, got better and was mashing….long story short he started his last two years of a D-1….it can be done.
To me Juco’s can work out for a small niche but not most.
As far as freshman Tristan Russell and Ace Reese , maybe Logan Simmons could contribute early.
Cameron Edwards put up numbers in HS but it was 3A, maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll be the second coming of Ryan Wagner….lol
There are a ton of transfers, both from Juco and other D-1 schools….some look like they have potential but you never know……and they are entering Big-12 baseball, not American……they are going to have to be studs to have an impact right away.
As a said in football….I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES!!!
That’s good……be at this team only has a handful of kids that can pitch at this level……gonna have to mash.
Murray and Tulimero are going to have to have MONSTER seasons for the Coogs.
A freshman I overlooked was Conner Bennett, the catcher from Conroe….lot of potential there.
If the freshman I mentioned earlier and a couple transfers show out,the team will be able to compete most days….but like I said, pitching is super thin.
This is one of those teams where you could see them beat some ranked teams but also see them lose to some really bad teams.
We all know it’s well beyond time for TW to go……I want the team to do well, but also want a new hungry coach next year.
MAJOR kudos to you Sir for being honest with your players/families…far too many in the Travel Ball world are not and are just taking money from kids that have no chance at next level. JUCO is most definitely not for the faint of heart. Talent at JUCO level was impressive, especially the top pitchers chasing the pro ball dream
Yes, unfortunately there are many organizations that are just money grabs….and you have “coaches “ going through the motions……most parents have no clue.
Many times in the showcase events we would play a team we had never heard of and run rule them….it does us no good, it’s not productive for anyone……and then you see the “coach” talking BS to the parents….” We’re close, just a little here , there, etc.” just enough to keep them handing over money.
These parents have to realize the massive gap in talent levels….but don’t seem to care….I can’t tell you the number of times I have had a dad or even a mom come and ask if it’s possible for their kid to play with our group….I’m nice every time ( which some of you will probably chuckle at ) but damn, your kid would not be 3rd string LF for us….how do you not see it?
I give pitching lessons to kids from 10 -18 years old……occasionally I’ll get a parent with a 14-15 year old kid that wants pitching lessons….I’ll work with the kid 30 minutes and then tell the parents I can’t take their money……it is clear the kid has very little experience and will not even come close to making their HS team……but someone else will take that money, guaranteed.
