I coached select in Austin after college and it was downright criminal to see what some of these “coaches” called a lesson. Not to mention what they charged per hour. I’d charge half has much and provide twice the instruction. I coached in a nicer area and a bunch of the parents had money but no baseball knowledge and were willing to do whatever it took for their kids and these coaches just raked in the money while taking advantage of them.
I have found that most of the people who “teach lessons” for baseball are usually charging a high number and most of the time they are teaching very young kids.
Me coming to the baseball board every 60 days or so, to see if anything new has happened to give me hope for the future

Hill, you made me laugh. Your comment is mine as well.
And to be clear, hope isn’t just Whitting leaving. I’d love for him to turn it around, great guy, alumni, etc…. I’d be tickled to come and read how we landed some new Frank Anderson, or killed it in the transfer portal or recruiting. Anything.
How did we get onto actual baseball talk on a thread about Pez giving a new contract to TW?
Just random thought but Todd > Dana. At least Todd gave us some good wins
Don’t email that to Yezman. He’ll give him an huge buyout, too
Yeah for sure……TW almost got us to the CWS.
Just time for fresh blood.
Dana has not done sh-t….
I’ll admit that was the first UH football game I’ve watched in a few years, mainly keep up with basketball and baseball. That was awful and hard to watch. Very poorly coached and an uninspiring sloppy team. The UH baseball teams have not played sloppy baseball the last two years.
I’m actually pretty bullish on the baseball team this year. Roster has improved. The program is 73-47 over the last two season for a .600 winning percentage, finishing 2nd and 3rd in a decent baseball conference. That’s not great and not terrible. I think this is a big season for the staff to either flex some muscle or go down the tubes.
The UH roster is crazy interesting: 48 players coming from 14 different states and 4 countries (USA, Canada, Netherlands, Germany). 26 total players from Texas, and 12 of those from the greater Houston area, or 25% of the roster. Personally, I think the 25% should be closer to 50%-70%. We need LOCAL talent buying into the program.
Just noticed the Dutch player…apparently a decent reliever at UT prior to this.
Perhaps he could be the “Blyleven” of UH!!!
Which SEC school did the French Canadian play for? Says he was a Freshman All-American. I wonder what his story is.
Schmitz I was familiar with already…never realized he was from Germany!
I’ll agree the team has played cleaner baseball and played with heart.
But I’m not impressed with the record the last two years……the schedule the last two years has been absolute garbage.
Honestly I’m not even sure what the point of the schedule has been other than to fool the average fan.
The teams RPI’s have reflected the schedule and despite these winning records the team has been light years away from the NCAA tournament in regards to an at-large bid……not even close to the wrong side of the bubble.
As a former player I would rather play a schedule that if we play well enough gets us an at-large……at least we are playing for something and have a chance……even if we finished 20-40 I’d have more respect for my coach for at least giving us the possibility of getting there.
I would bet that some or most of these players feel the same.
Lurker, as a player how would you feel if when the schedule came out, you already knew you would have to win the conference tournament to get in?
I would be pissed and wonder what the heck was going on.
As far as this years team there are a few freshman that should be really good….combine that with a few key returnees and I think the offense will be pretty salty.
However, I don’t think the pitching staff is going to get it done against Big-12 teams……it did not get it done against the American and weak OOC. There are a few transfers pitchers that look interesting on paper but unless the transfer pitchers are above average this team will finish in the bottom 1/2 of conference.
Unless the team surprises and makes the NCAA then TW needs to step down so we can get a hungry head coach from a lower conference that is ready to take the next step.
There’s a lot of truth to this. Players want to play the best. I’m not a fan of playing a lot of series that if you win, you were supposed to win and if you lose its an embarrassment. I’d rather take 1 of 3 in a weekend series with LSU than sweep McNeese State. And the problem became, we werent sweeping the McNeese states of the world.
If I’m a top player on the Banditos and half the roster is going to Tenn, Ole Miss, Texas, LSU, etc. but not getting any offers from them, I want to go to a place that plays them and prove them wrong. You don’t even get a chance with a poor schedule.
AAC not even decent anymore. Barely in top 10.
Playing the Southland, SWAC, WAC etc
Sunk 2 the point of getting ruled by those teams a few times.
UH just another tier 3 program.
AAC was the 5th ranked conference last year. Right behind the PAC-12 and just above Conference USA.
The Big 12 is the 2nd ranked baseball conference last year behind the SEC and above the ACC.
We are about to find out how good we are with a decent schedule this year plus the Astros College Classic against Tx State, Vandy and Ragin Cajuns.
Did you look at the right year ?
B12 was good but not close to ACC for 2nd.
Baylor was the drag.
AAC only had ECU in Top 100 RPI.
Barely beat out Big West for #9.

I looked every new/returning player.
After MLB we can have a thread. Outside shot at .500 if a few pitchers have big years.
Yeah, I knew AAC was pretty bad.
When you only get one team in the tournament and one team top 100 RPI….no bueno.
Lurker must have been looking at a few years back.
The OOC schedule last year was the worst we have seen since…oh, the year before. Our OOC schedules is not as important this year, though, because if you win series in the Big 12, you will make the tournament. With that said, how in the hell are we not playing LSU in the tournament at Minute Maid?
Maybe they did not want to lower their RPI? Lol
We used to have some great series against LSU when we were in the Regionals and Supers consistently.
We used to have a head coach who cared more about getting his team to a regional than he did padding his own winning percentage.
