Elephant in the room

The extension was contractually mandated once we joined the XII.

We built TDECU without a penny from TF.

His medical school donation is huge. I’ll forever be thankful!

That’s nuts. You don’t want to hire someone who will leave in two years. Look at how the program and recruiting imploded when Herman left. That doesn’t mean you hire a stiff you know will stick around, but we’re P5 in about 9 months. No reason we can’t keep coaches short of a Texas or Alabama calling.

Look how far Levine + Applewhite + Holgs dragged the program down

Man #8 was just a rag doll

They weren’t good head coaches. Like I said, don’t hire a stiff just because he wants the job and says he’ll stick around. But I have never seen the air leave the room for the program and especially recruiting when Herman left.

Agreed Mike. Hoping now for a great turnaround and praying for Holgy, his staff and the team.
Like I said before I am a lot more concerned with Holgersen the man than I am the coach.

This how they can handle the situation with Holgy, hire the staff under Holgy if he likes it or not, hire the a new OC, keep Belk , hire OL Coach, and tell Dana your going to work with them like it or not, and have him take regular sobriety test. Knowing how prideful he is and irreverent and full of himself, he may just quit.

He doesn’t have to go far…North Shore or Katy!!!

…then he should get his rear to North Shore or Katy…the play pretty good football!!

Drama

He and Renu both said that they are all about winning in the Big 12.

It’s a good stadium seating wise. The outer facade had to be what it is for air flow. If we bricked it in fans would complain it’s too hot. We’re cutting edge in Houston and that is what our stadium represents. Okay then we can easily brink it in then let’s hear people say , dammm it’s too hot. Lol

Just face it-we are not Alabama. Sometimes we have good years and sometimes we have bad years. When have we ever gone undefeated-NEVER.

It was a great deal at the time, 128 mil and we needed a stadium badly.
Cost of a couple of new stadiums…

“Northwestern University on Wednesday unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art $800 million stadium, which would replace the almost 100-year-old Ryan Field. The new stadium would be a privately funded project made possible by the Ryan family, according to a news release from the school.”

And more in our time build…

Baylor…… “The $266 million stadium is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Baylor University to bring football back to campus and also contribute to the growth of downtown …”.

And for a basketball/multi-purpose facility….

“The new, $338 million privately-funded project will replace the 42-year-old Frank C. Erwin Jr. Center that has been standing for the last 42 years”

I’m pretty demand proud of what the University accomplished with the budget at the time.

As someone that’s seen a fair number of other football stadia over the past few years, TDECU grows on me with each new venue I see. From an architectural standpoint, I’d easily put TDECU ahead of:

  • Jordan-Hare
  • Jones AT&T Stadium
  • The Alamodome
  • The Cotton Bowl
  • Yulman Stadium
  • Gerald J. Ford Stadium

In general, most of the “classic” stadia that people fawn over don’t offer a great fan experience. We get great sight lines, a decent breeze, and the ability to see the game from the concourse. The downtown view is still available in spots. There are bits and pieces where I think we might need a couple updates, but more often than not, when I watch a game elsewhere I can’t help but think about how much better I like TDECU.

First, it seems like you don’t know what a rivet is, here’s the definition: “a short metal pin or bolt for holding together two plates of metal, its headless end being beaten out or pressed down when in place:” Any rivets in our stadium are steel. Maybe you are thinking of the aluminum sheet metal skin that has holes to allow ventilation.

Regardless, I think it is a nice stadium and is very adequate for our needs. The views are all good. For the price it is a tremendous bargain, and it has helped us gain entry into the B12. There is nothing to complain about TDECU stadium. Sure, if we had a couple hundred million dollars more, we could have had a few more bells and whistles, but it is a very good stadium.

YES.
Our stadium cost around $110M’s
SDSU another public university cost $330M’s.
The big difference between the two is what is around the stadium.
SDSU planned it on the old Jack Murphy stadium parking lot footprint. Besides the price the Mission Valley area had already been revitalized.
At $110M’s we have a gem. Developpers have to step up around our stadium. That is out of our control.
What is in our control is the idiotic idea to stop tail gating…and got a company to organize one for us. Tail gating IS college football and even pro sports. Who signed off on this has to correct it. It is never too late to admit making mistakes…Yes that includes our long lines and 1/3 of concession workers showing up.

Only complaint is we need restrooms and concessions on 300 level, they need to finish that level out, people having to up and down stairs and then climb up stairs to their seats is no good, besides that I love our stadium

Other key point regarding SDSU: its in San Diego, CA. Very high real estate prices.

Third Ward Houston (at least at the time), way cheaper RE values.

I think you can argue that, just like Minute Maid and Toyota Center did, TDECU was/is the linchpin for a lot of subsequent development in the area.

Personally, I have never had the opportunity to attend a game at the TDECU, but I have seen it. As someone who went to a lot of games at Robertson, its no comparison. Robertson Stadium was a glorified HS stadium, and even then it was dated, considering the Taj Mahal’s that are being built in many school districts in Texas.
