Also how old is Tune? Is he old enough to be in a generation that’s not broadbrushed as “me”?
He has great energy and seems engaged.
Looking for two things from Coley. Most important is , ball security. is he careful with the rock . Have stated this before, in all the games we lost, since Dana came here, our QB gave the ball to the other team.
That’s right , we threw picks in all games we lost. All.
Secondly, hope he has a quick release and is decisive.
To hell with “class.” If the other team doesn’t like it, they should stop it.
Signed,
Jugular John
Oh yeah Jugular John, the guy who got us on probation and started the decay of our football program!
I don’t remember Jenkins getting us on probation. I remember he got in trouble for trying to liven up film study with racy pics.
No question the football program was on a downward spiral when JJ was fired.
3 years I believe for illegal payments to athletes including buying one player furniture
The 1989-1991 probation stemmed from the Bill Yeoman tenure.
In his 25 seasons Yeoman created 7 years of probation. The last 3 happened after he was fired in 1986.
Bill got us our probation for the money to move.
How dare we ever say anything about bill.
Yes you are correct and I had forgotten about the Shepard fiasco in 1976. Pretty sure the first 3 years were provoked by the recruitment of McVea but I had forgotten about the last three probation years after Yeomans forced retirement
Probations via Yeoman:
1966-1968( all 3 teams were Nationally ranked and would have been Bowl teams)
1977(team was Bowl eligible otherwise)
1989-1991( Both 1989 and 1990 were Bowl Teams. The 1990 team was 10-1.)
That is 6 Bowl teams we never had due to Probation. Plus the missed TV chances. Games vs UT, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mich. St.,and others might have made for a TV broadcast.
Yeoman’s exploits would not be tolerated today. But UH was a massive Nothing in the 1960’s and Yeoman fixed that. Our Donors were 100% complicit in providing “goodies” to our recruits.
UT and everyone else did the same things. But the powers back then were not going to allow a “Nothing” Inner City University to become equal to them.
You are right, everyone cheated but the spotlight always went on us. The Shepard deal was totally a joke.
Today none of that would be illegal…the NIL would take care of everything.
I am amazed our hoops program was never on probation although the Horford stuff almost got us as coach Lewis, like Yeoman, was allowed to retire.
I remember Darrell Shepard’s customized black Trans Am on campus. He had “Darrell” painted in powdered blue script on his trunk.
Everybody did cheat. But unfortunately the SWC couldn’t do like the SEC and turn the other way for the embetterment of the conference as a whole …
I was told several times that schools in Texas all pretty well keep tabs on each other since they are so close together (outside TeeTee) and recruit basically the same kids.
However, not the same in other conferences, especially the SEC where schools are spread all over the map…
We got 1 year probation and had to vacate 3 wins under Major for academic misconduct
Holman Edwards was listed on the 2 deep every week. Not sure that means anything especially since he’s now in the transfer portal
I think at this point I’d like to see someone else watch him.
