Fentanyl

Bulk of fentanyl comes from China. The Chinese have been waging a modern opium war against us for some time now.

History does have a way of repeating itself, this time our country is on the receiving end.

The thing is, the Chinese have synthesized fentanyl in such a concentrated form that you don’t need it in bulk. That’s the reason it’s easy to overdose. Some high dealer mistakes mg for mcg on his scale and boom easy overdose of his customers. And the fentanyl is so concentrated that even touching it by accident can kill you. So they can send it via fedex envelope. Easy. No mules needed.

The amount that comes in via post, ingeniously packed in equipment, on trucks or containers ships that slip right past CBP is huge. We only seize a fraction, but attaching this to immigrants bringing it in amounts greater that are trucked in is just political theater to throw red meat to rabid supporters. Tie in open borders and it makes for a good sound bite. In the immigration thread (nice job btw of not derailing it is nonsense) we pointed out the hypocrisy of politicians who talk a big gamebon immigration but in the end side with big business in various key sectors that depend on cheap labor.

Pointing the finger of Fentanyl and immigrants really steers one away from the truth.

Yes, we have a huge addiction problem, we need solutions.

Just like gun control, after a mass shooting
we hear we dont need more laws, it is a mental health problem
but
we are also doing nothin to make mental health accessible.

It is the same with drugs, lets point the finger at other countries ans our borders but ignore the actual users who need help and are the ones creating the demand.

U.S. uses more drugs prescription and non-prescription, legit, illegitimate than any other country on the face of this earth. Largest pharmaceutical industry, as well. See the connection? Wealthiest country on the globe but people feel they they need drugs to cope. The amount of young people pointed out who’ve died from these illicit drugs is symptomatic of a spiritually deeply troubled society.

Chinese are the suppliers

Why is fentanyl an issue? Is it cheaper to make so they swap out other drugs people think they are getting or is it a different fix for pain that sellers think is a “better” concoction or some other reason they are selling it instead of what people think they are getting?

I don’t keep up with the drug trade.

It’s cheap, not hard to make, and a little bit goes a really long way.

Time to invade Mexico

How can you make lite/fun of this?

We need Nancy Reagan to solve this problem. Just say no to your drug dealer and get your Aspirin from CVS.

Fentanyl is trafficked principally by land across the US’ southern border with Mexico, though cartels have also increased use of the US Postal Service, the report said.

People have always used drugs for recreation and have become addicted. Plenty of alcoholics to prove the point. Let’s do what we can to stop their use, but just realize you’ll never do it. Examine every strategy and adopt those which work best. For now and all times, because drugs will always be in human societies no matter the harm or the penalties imposed by governments. Fentanyl is just the latest in a long line.

The key is price. Try to make it so expensive and the trafficking penalties so onerous that it becomes not profitable.

But it is doing nothing on the demand side of the problem. As long as there is demand people will risk selling it or bringing it in.

Thanks for not accusing me of being pro-Fentanyl.

Scarce supply drives up prices. That part is hard to make happen. Harsh sentencing is easy. Looks like minimum is 3 years. Never sentence a user to hard time. They are victims, stupid victims or not.

Price is the only way to reduce demand.

Then you have never met or talked with someone with an addiction.
