Fire Kevin Barbay

Oh please. Coach said last week he abandoned the run too early against UNLV. You have to run the ball, even poorly, to keep the defense honest. Of course all the best coaches are anonymous posters on fan sites.

The Tulane board didn’t want him. They were pretty happy with him leaving.

After 2 games ā€˜you’ve lost all patience.’ Did you have any to start with?

I tend to agree…I think you have to attempt to run the ball even if the offense isn’t particularly good at it. Keep the defense honest and you need the live game reps in order to get better.

I view it like taking a meat tenderizer mallet to a tough steak. Keep pounding and something good should happen.

Of course there needs to be balance…mix it up. I think our QB stats were pretty good. Defense was solid…made me proud

I think coach will figure it out

I like staying with the run especially to give Jenkins and Sanford a chance. However, I recall a 3rd and 8 with okay field position and it was a run call. That seems a bit too conservative imo

Well the comments from MSU fans about Barbary were similar to what Miami fans told us about Mark D’Onofrio when Applesauce hired him as our DC.

Hopefully MSU was just a bad situation for him and ends up being a minor speed bump. Through 2 games here he hasn’t done much to dispell what Miss St fans were saying though.

We got comments from MSU fans? On here? I missed that

Could have hired UNLV’s OC. He has some solid offenses

Not sure if they were posted here but all over twitter. Things like

And the replies to when he was hired were DOnofrio-esque

Doesn’t mean he can’t end up working out, but there are some red flags

Really? I didn’t know he was interested.

MSU was averaging 30 ppg in their first six games, and that includes games against Alabama and LSU. But their starting QB was lost for the rest of the season in game six. They apparently didn’t have a competent reserve and really struggled the rest of the way. Barbay’s offense at Central Michigan averaged 32 ppg, and Appalachian State averaged 35 ppg when he was OC. I think he’s a solid OC, but Fritz is a pretty conservative, run-first guy. He’s not going to hire a Kliff Kingsbury type to run the offense. And one might argue that UH can’t win with a run-first offense, but I don’t buy that. Kansas State ran 100 times more than they passed last year and as they typically do. They did okay, and they don’t get four and five star athletes.

This was a winnable game but boneheaded plays precluded winning. Under Herman this team did not beat itself. Under fritz, so far anyway, mistakes are killing them

It’s going to take some time to get the team out of the bad habits they developed under Holgerson… We ranked #113 in penalties last year.

Iowa used to run a naked bootleg when they were inside the two. It had a high success rate because the QB had only two defenders separated from one another to defend with. I saw them run it for 60 yards against MSU. Not sure it would work for Smith though. It takes steely nerves.

All this time I thought the objective was to win the game. All this time I did not think the objective was to pad stats or look good losing. Might I remind folks UH was in Norman playing a national power needing a field goal to WIN the freakin game until things went south? Where was all this BMW when CDH was paying more attention to Happy Hour? Get real people.

Looks like Barbary has a solid history.
UNLV will make some big names look bad. Nobody will want the, in a round 1 matchup.
OU required a little home cooking even with Coogs shooting both their feet off.
I used to like watching Tulane run their offense. These high powered teams started getting a little nervous when they only got the ball 7 or 8 times a game.
