Passing when the QB is under Center take footwork, faster recognition and timing, none of which Smith or Chriss has shown. Why make their job even harder.

Anf the OC wasnt killing plays by throwing off target or continuously misreading RPOs.

I saw a tweet that Barbay went over and gave props to the defense during practice. Offense must be getting shutout in practice too

Barbay or no Barbay, football team lacks overall O talent. QB play and QB depth is subpar, OL canât open holes for the run, our best WRs transferred.
We were deluded into thinking we had a good rushing attack based on the 1st half of the Rice game.
Take away Mews punt return for TD and the fumble recovery deep inside Riceâs territory that led to an easy TD, our win over Rice was 19-7 instead of 33-7.
CWF wants a running attack, but it may take two years before we can recruit the OL and personnel to make it successful.
Until then, fans are going to have to suck it up because itâs going to be ugly for awhile.

Barbay is the worst hire. He makes Fritz look real bad. He is Nesbitt bad. Maybe worse.

Do you think a different OC will suddenly make QB1 better? Will a change make the OL better? Make our WRs better?

The defense needs to overperform while the offense gets its act together. If the defense has problems, you get the blowout you saw against Cincinnati.

While I agree 100% that Fritz needs to bring better offensive lineman to run the ball, the pro-style scheme run by Barbay magnifies the weaknesses of the OL.
If the OL is so bad, why are we trying to run it up the gut? Why not run some two back sets with some misdirection? If the OL is so bad, why not run passing and plays with quicker reads to get the ball out of the QBâs hands and into the hands of the skill players?
Thatâs what worked years ago when UH teams lacked talent on the OL. I have no doubt it could work better than what weâre seeing with Barbayâs offense. I know Fritz wants to run the ball, but damn, how many opportunities did our skill players have to make big plays today? Not many. Thatâs not a winning formula for an offense.

But we would have scored without the miscues. There is no OC that I know can put a score when every attempt ended with fumble or missed FG or even interception.
Every offensive coach needs to be on notice. The QB should be showing improvement after 4 games and seems to be regressing. The offensive line canât control the line of scrimmage against equal or better talent. I am including the TEs in this group, since they are being held in to block. The running backs are missing blocking assignments, which are blowing up plays and not protecting the ball. I will be generous and give the WRs an incomplete because of the QB, OL, and RB problems contribute to not getting them the ball.

To me it appears that the coach/coaches think that they can play power football without the personnel to do it. I think they are going to have to use a different system, like the Air Raid or some gimmick offense, until they can find the people who can execute a power scheme. I will say that I thought one of the new coachâs strengths was supposed to be how he adapted his offenses to fit his talent. I donât see it yet. I knew this would be a long season, but the lack of identity on the offensive end has been pretty shocking.

That is fair. He was better in the DH scheme. Still he was a turnover waiting to happen. Either an INT or a fumble.

I agree. In the past Fritz has always adapted the O to fit personnel. Regardless, his teams played good D.
I would rather see something with a lot more option and misdirection in the run game. Kind of like Army, but with about 20+ passesa game. As you start to get talent then you can get to a zone blocking scheme.

imho, this all falls on the QB. I like Donavan Smih as a person. But as QB, he isnât progressing. He has some great moments but then goes back to making the same mistakes (same as last year).
The rest of the team has to believe that he can be counted on when needed.

The OC can only call plays that the QB can execute. Donovan has proven over and over he has very limited abilities. With a more talented QB, our OC would look just fine
