Me too. Am I a masochist? /s
31 wins and 28 losses in the past 5 years. When does the immediacy start?
NTXCoog, it all depends on why you watched the Coogs in the first place.
My entire family went to UH, I defected and went to TAMU. Been attending Cougar football and basketball games since I was a baby, though. When we played A&M in basketball, I went to the game in Houston and wore Coog gear. When we played in the round of 32, I cheered for the Coogs and, candidly, wouldn’t have been happy if a&m moved on. I don’t know your reason for being a Coog fan, but mine is 25 years of cheering for the dudes in scarlet red and albino white every Saturday in the fall and throughout the week Nov - March. So, I’ll keep watching because I never stopped watching. I hate that we suck, but I will always cheer for my Coogs.
You have to give this team a chance. I personally don’t take the season seriously. I’ve been a coog since the 90s. I knew it was going to be like this. Unlike Herman who inherited some great football players from Levine in 2015, including Greg Ward, Fritz was left with players like Smith.
Fritz had a rough start at Tulane but his last two season he was 23-4 winning the Cotton Bowl with a top 25 ranked team. Holgerson did UH no favors with his recruitments for the future and Fritz is building from scratch. My money and loyalty is to UH.
Geez. Not even my school, but I’ll still keep going to the games.
Although I do agree that Levine left a better roster for Herman to tinker with enough to thrive in, I also believe it’s not an apt comparison, due to the potential roster-depleting/changing effect of NIL & the Transfer Portal.
For instance, I’m pretty sure key players for Herman (ex. Ayers, McDonald, Elandon Roberts, Greg Ward, Jr., etc.) would have tested the Portal & NIL waters.
And even tho Holgorsen didn’t do CWF any favors recruiting-wise, he did leave a couple of 4* & High 3* players that could’ve been the backbone for a more competitive team this season.
Let’s not forget that CWF turned away players that had initially stayed, like Sam Brown (Miami) & Harrison-Pilot (TxTech).
The NIL & the Transfer Portal even makes it harder for Fritz compared to other coaches of the past. As far as players of the past testing todays portal, that’s all speculation. That’s like saying Case would have tested portal waters when that was so long ago. It doesn’t apply today.
Without NIL we have no chance. So instead of complaining start contributing. We do not have a QB and without that no team is winning. It does not matter who the coach or OC is.
Recall Fritz was hired very late in the recruiting cycle. Most staffs were already formed and most players committed.
We will see how staff and players change over the next year.
Just look for the positives. Most everyone knew this was going to be a rough year. They have shown some flashes of being good. Just not consistent enough right now.
This is all about the roster–a team has to have the players to coach up. We do not
Me too brother… Go Coogs
Everone hates losong but i have no doubt we will be a much better program in these years to come.
An empty stadium is embarrassing and other schools will begin to question what we bring to the table. If that starts to happen we will be right back in that mid-major wasteland we had to endure for 27 years. I don’t ever want to see that again so I’ll be there for every home game and watch every road game on the tube. Besides that we still have a chance at a bowl game. Mathematically speaking that is.
I love the University of Houston and I love UH football & Basketball.
I feel great when the Coogs are riding high (UH men’s Basketball has been very good for me CKS). But I also have other things in my life that are important to me (church, family, friends, play guitar, time with my sweetie, etc.).
I was really upset with how bad the game went against Kansas. Got that out of my system; went to work the Pumpkin Patch at church; laughed with my church friends there; left tired and with a big smile on my face; and the game loss was out of my head.
I’m sure most on this board have similar things to help ease the pain of a bad loss in UH sports.
For those that don’t, you really need to find additional & better things to get happiness from when UH games let you down. (Things that you can control to some degree).
The problem is that half of our games haven’t even been competitive.
That type of product will even lose some of the die hards.
Yes, we will give Fritz a chance but he keeps digging the hole a little deeper with each sloppy, unprepared performance.
Thats coaching, guys!
The way I read the OP’s question it’s more a question of why put up with any low feeling that at UH football brings.
You made up for the disappointment but why deal with an optional disappointment to begin with, is the question posed.
Cignetti was hired like a week before Fritz. He’s 7-0. At Indiana. A program that won like 3 games last year.
Admittedly that’s a fair comparison. Same timeframe and he’s obviously way head of the curve in the win column than Fritz
I remember getting upset at losses, I was a lot younger tho lol, like others have said, there is a lot more to life than football
