This is an interesting strawman but seeing it for what it is, try again.
Think again about the PUF not being used for athletics.
Read this:
Bellmont Hall / West Side Addition (1969)
- In 1969, the Board of Regents approved Bellmont Hall, which serves both academic and stadium functions.
- This cost just over $12 million, with about 70% funded via PUF bond proceeds, and the rest from stadium seating sales. Bellmont Hall supports 14,000 upper-deck seats and houses UT athletics and kinesiology facilities
What uta does with its AUF share
- Debt service on PUF-backed bonds
ut System can issue bonds (up to 20% of the PUF’s book value) backed by AUF revenue to finance capital projects—like buildings, labs, and equipment. The principal on these bonds remains intact, and the AUF covers the bond repayments
- Support & Maintenance
After debt obligations are covered, remaining AUF funds support maintenance of uta and the ut System Administration
- Academic excellence programs
Any residual funds (beyond debt and admin costs) go toward excellence initiatives — including:
- Advanced research facilities
- Library collections
- Graduate fellowships & scholarships
- Specialized academic equipment [ERIC]
uta alone/specifically is guaranteed at least 30% of the PUF distribution (which is 2/3 share × 45% regental policy). That equates to funding for program enrichment like faculty recruitment and research
Everyone can see how these $B’s have made a huge difference for uta. This is what happens when two systems benefit immensely for having access to the PUF.
What kind of benefits does uta get from the PUF after close to 150 years?
You betcha it has made a world of difference in and out of athletics included. Anyone denying it is either to close to Chernobyl or will never admit it.
All I can compare it to is what we have accomplished with the peanuts money vs uta’s and atm’s $B’s.
We have had to operate on a shoe string budget including athletics. If it was not for Mrs. Khator we probably would not have TDECU stadium and Fertitta Center.
Four are recognized.
The effect of PUF over 100+ years is a bell that can’t be unrung. We have seen changes to it have been a political impossibility. Just like we can’t go back and unring the bell that left us in the cold when the SWC broke up.
Need to focus on the areas we can actually move the needle on.
UCF is recognized too and they finished undefeated. You compare it to programs like bama or USC and uta is not even in the same discussion. They are indeed the most over hyped program in college football history.
U of H should always push to have access to the PUF. We have every right just like other Texas public universities to get access to it.
UT ranks near the top in numerous all-time categories, including bowl games (3rd), wins (5th), win percentage (7th), conference titles (8th), consensus all-Americans (7th), and weeks in AP poll (7th).
Blue blood in nearly every sense.
And in today’s NIL and revenue sharing era, no brand is bigger, richer, or better equipped, resource wise, to pay for the best team possible.
What’s happening with the number of National Championships? Yes you failed to mention it.
17th is not bad but it is nowhere close to what the media wants you to believe.
They have great followers, so does atm. Same thing how many National Championships.
uta and atm’s moto?
DO LESS WITH MORE"
USC?
Yes 3rd for NC’s
All schools:
What media is trying to get us to believe they have more national championships than they actually have? I’ll wait…
Their fanbase and following isn’t a media fiction. Though we all know they tend to do less with more.
What does a fan base have anything to do with actual results/National Championships?
NONE but it helps the media push a narrative. 17th is far from elite. uta is not even in the top ten. That is reality.
It tells you their NIL potential and brand size.
In this era, UT has an advantage like no other in that regard.
They always have had that advantage…with what result? Ranked 17th in National Championships won.
Sure they do buy a ton of uta seat cushions.
Unfortunately, they are a heck of a lot closer to elite than we are.
However, we know that an elite program is measured by more than just national championships. The talent they attract, the facilities, the $ they bring in, the Bowl wins, it all counts.
It’s an even bigger advantage in this era than before.
Just ask Bama, which is being pushed down the SEC food chain by bigger, richer UT.
…and give us the same tool it will happen at UH too. It took decades for uta to even have a sniff at a National championship.
Clearly with the amount of espn uta propaganda everyone would think uta has won more National championships than any other program. They are without a doubt the most over rated football program.
…and with what results?
uta had to have the referee accept their bribe to win against ASU…then lost…
Except that we don’t have the fan base, money, and brand size that UT does.
In today’s NIL era we LACK that advantage.
In my view, we need to a) make full use of the comparative advantage we have over most of college football in the transfer portal, and b) hope that a sugar daddy eventually comes along.
Until then, it won’t be easy to keep up.
247 Sports agrees with you.

That is true.
But I can imagine UT becoming formidable in the NIL era.
No programs has bigger advantages there.
When are you going to realize that uta has always had that advantage with others and paid more than others?
It has never been as great as it is today.
Virtually NO ONE can match their NIL potential.
