This is a dumb take. We have 5 losses and a good roster. 3 years ago UCONN had 8 losses and won it all. Kansas the year prior had 6 losses and won it. UNC and Villanova in previous years had 7 and 8 losses. Sure, this team has flaws and this streak shows that we are for sure vulnerable, especially in the paint. But we pick ourselves up and move on. We can get some rest and still go on a run. We’ll probably be on the 2-3 line and that’s ok. I know we’re used to being a 1 seed and not losing like this but this is still a very talented team.
Just majorly disappointed with the lack of adjustments to open up more scoring opportunities. It is also aggravating that Jojo is getting more touches when it should be the opposite. He is deadweight with the ball in his hands unless it is within 3 feet of the goal.
The post game presser gave me a much better “read” of what is really going on.
Anyone that has played sports knows that physically your body can only handle so much. What we as fans do not realize is how good the BIG12 is. It is IMO the best basketball conference and by far. The announcers made it a point telling the audience how good the BIG12 is. Our schedule is brutal and these three losses reflect that. You look at all of the top BIG12 teams and they lost games just like we did. We now have five days before we play Colorado then it is on to baylor and OSU. These three games are tailored made for us to get our legs back and refine an offense that is still trying to find its true identity. The margin between winning and losing against elite teams is minuscule. We as fans forget it because we blindly think we can win every game with ease. That is never the case. Our offense is where I am the most concerned. I go back to the same conclusion on what role and how effective is Chris’ role on this team. CKS has been clear on how he wants Chris to play. The following question is fair. Is it working to his plans? Let’s look at our losses vs Cenac’s production:

Clearly these numbers do not stand out for a lottery pick player. I don’t know crap but is that enough for CKS and how does he think his stats could improve?
These losses were against elite teams. Apart from tennessee and maybe Kansas each of these BIG12 team is a contender to make the final four.
What we know for sure is how a great HC CKS is. Yes we have to ride the storm but I can assure you I can’t think of a better Captain to steer this ship.
I think 2 things are happening:
1 - fatigue. In some earlier games, the starters played the majority of the second half because the games were tight.
2 - confidence is down. Lack of confidence is leading to lack of aggression. In the AZ game, Harwell had an opportunity to go strong to the basket. He started to drive, then turned and passed it back out. Yesterday, we had open shots and didn’t take them. The only ones playing with any confidence are Fleming and Sharp (who is in a major slump)
Gotta keep my perfect attendance for the season
Sure we played 3 great teams and losing to all three isn’t the biggest deal. But…Iowa State put out a blueprint for beating this team, AZ followed it and Kansas also followed it and blew the doors off. It looked like the team looked at it and said, “uh oh, not this again” and almost resigned to the fact that they didn’t have a serious way to beat it. That’s way more troubling than losing to 3 top teams.
I’m sure we can reconfigure, Samp is superb at that. I’m not sure we can reconfigure this quickly in a way that gets us elite enough to challenge for the championship. But this is the team we have and we ride it out. I with them all the way but I dont want to see that team we saw with absolutely no juice.
Good analysis.
The good news is, we likely won’t face a stretch of games like this for the rest of the season…even in the tournament, no matter where we are in the bracket.
I see a renewed energy for UH come NCAA Tournament time. Everyone playing the 2 games Thursday-Sunday schedule. UH will benefit from playing non-B12 teams in the NCAA Tournament. They have not seen UH’s defensive pressure, which coaches say is hard to simulate in practice. Add to that the pressure of the NCAA Tournament, and some teams may not be built for that type of pressure. I’m sure the coaching staff will continue to coach and tweak assignments for the rest of the season. I expect UH to get back some of their mojo in preparation for the B12 Tournament. The B12 Tournament will have the best top end teams in its Tournament compared to any other conference. It wouldn’t shock me if, with the right luck and bounce, one of 5 teams can win it.
With Tugler always in foul trouble and Cenac hanging around the 3-point line, the Coogs get very soft inside. UH just doesn’t have the physical specimens of the past.
If this stretch is all it takes for thousands of people to stop supporting, then they should all give up their season tickets to the folks who have been on the waitlist. The collective b*tching and moaning since last night has been embarrassing.
Just last night?
If you were enthused about last night’s atrocity, more power to ya.
I’m surprised the waitlist still exists after we cleared up the scalpers last season.
No one likes losing. But I’m not a weak, fair-weather fan, which we see to have an abundance of.
It’s really not difficult to figure out why we get called poor, why people don’t show up, or don’t show up on time when this is the response to the first losing streak in nearly a decade. Pitiful fanbase and alumni.
I think it is more of the top 5 ranking paired with 2 five star players giving us false hope and making it seem like we are a championship caliber team.
I would suggest you give up yours since they are obviously in the wrong hands.
The biggest difference to me with this team compared to all the previous teams from this amazing run is I’m not sure if we have any DAWGS on the roster. In previous years, we’ve always had 1 ore more guys who, no matter who was lined up across the floor, were gonna be without a doubt the toughest SOB out there all the time. Getting on the floor for the loose ball, grabbing the offensive board, getting to the rim through the contact, etc. We have some guys who COULD fit that mold, but they just haven’t shown it this season. Here recently, the guy who has looked the closest to that Coog Culture is McCarty believe it or not.
2018 - Gray, Davis, Robinson
2019 - Robinson, Davis
2020 - Jarreau
2021 - Jarreau, Gorham, Chaney
2022 - White, Shead
2023 - Sasser, Chaney, Shead
2024 - Shead, Roberts
2025 - Roberts, Francis, Wilson
2026 - ???

Nah, I have passed the point of no return.
It will take a lot for me to give them up.
we can fault the staff for getting cute with replacing roberts but idk if you can fault them for bringing in the 5 stars or the top 5 ranking lol
