Houston Astros 2023 Season on a daily roll

Easy!!! You old now!! :laughing::smile:

OK, but .361? He’s hitting 50 points better than Tucker with 9 less ABs.

But seriously, only 1 K in 36 ABs is kind of shocking, and I’m pretty sure he’s facing the same pitchers as the rest of the team.

If I wanted you to make valid points I’d ask!

If I could have a courtesy runner to beat out my Texas leaguer’s you never know….lol

Question Pollard. We know Maldi not going to hit, he’s just not. Wouod it be too much of gamble to hsve Lee & Diaz as your everyday catchers. I mean the whole pt w Maldi was for the veterans Cole, Greinke, JV but now most of the Pitchers are all young . Big risk but
…

Edit: Lee was off to hot start last I checked few dsys ago. Diaz is better defensively imo, so good mix. He threw a BB to Pena w runners on 1st & 3rd. Runner just stopped in his tracks. Easy tag, inn over.

I didn’t mean for that to be the order. I was just assembling the bats as a unit.

100%

Maldy’s calling card has always been defense….looks like Father Time is catching up with him now….if he’s not in the top 1/3 defensively then his value is severely diminished.

Diaz has started to get comfortable, if he could ever get 3-4 games in a row I think he would show out….it’s tough to be a rookie……even tougher when you get to play once every five or six games.

Lee is ready for the big leagues as well….

If you had Diaz/Lee splitting time you would get way more offense without sacrificing defense at this point in Maldy’s career.

Problem is, we will not see that this year unless he gets hurt….Martin’ lives in the same portion of rarified air that Dubon does in Dusty’s head.

I was all in agreement till you had to put Dubon in that last sentence. Damn damn damn

Because of that, my guess for the lineup will be:
Altuve
Brantley
Bregman
Alvarez
Abreu
Tucker
Etc.

I think one main key about Maldy that they like is his rapport with the young latin pitchers, such as Garcia, Javier, Urquidy, Abreu etc. I believe even McCullers prefers working with him.

Yea, I know but it’s worn thin w me by now. Esp when there’s injuries like now n usually will be at least 1 reg starter out for some discomfort ( Astros med talk ). The lineup gets shorter. Diaz just called n said-- yo hablo espaƱol.

Edit: im sure they’ll give Maldy his due n let him ride out the year.

Doesn’t matter how good a rapport he has with them when he can’t hit his weight and turns into Gary Sanchez back there.

Yeah, I’m just thinking along the lines of Dusty. I think he values the veteran who knows this rotation like the back of his hand over the promising rookie. It’s still really early in the season though. It will shake out. OT: I feel like the pitch clock is affecting Pressly. I don’t think he is comfortable with it yet.

There’s always the excitement of what hair color he will wear for a series. :man_shrugging:

To you and I sure but Dusty is a like stubborn mule. I was looking forward to him retiring after the season.

I agree. Baker definitely likes the veterans presence. That’s why no matter what I don’t see him going w the 2 young catchers this year. Unless a Team gives Astros a trade offer they can’t refuse.

Dusty-- " If I get one, I want two" . :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I think that even caught the bossman off guard….I would say there must have been a nice ā€œbonusā€ for Espada to stick around.

Yeah, I was afraid he was going to take a job elsewhere. Although, it’s surprising that after all of those interviews, he still hasn’t landed one. I wonder if that’s the team’s decision or if he takes himself out of the running, hoping to get the Astros job one day?

I honestly think he is the manager in waiting……not sure how much he was really trying to get those jobs….I could be wrong.
