Kingston Flemings

Ron Artest played in the NBA 17 years with marginal offensive skills because he could play DEFENSE. Figure that one out.

I guess he is comparing Kingston with Rob Williams and it is blinding his objectivity.
No doubt Rob was special and an electrifying talent.
But Kingston is a totally different guard prospect.
Both are about the same build and makes you worrry about injuries.
Rob was a better shooter, had flashier handles and a magician with no look passes.
But freshman Flemmings is a better leader, better defensive player and can hold his own with his midrange shooting and ability to get into the paint.
Take away the showtime and I’m taking Kingston every day of the week.ā€˜I am wowed by his coolness in pressure situations.
And I think coach Guy V Lewis would agree.

We have to stop giving attention to posters who think top 10 picks should stay in school to become more like Ron Artest, defensively. Lmfao. You really can’t make this up.

I NEVER said the kid wasn’t good. I NEVER said he shouldn’t get the money. I am talking about WHEN to get the MOST money and how to get it for the LONGEST TIME. I’m just saying the more skills he has and the more things he can do as a well rounded player the longer he will play in the NBA. I am a longevity guy. I want Flemings (and ALL UH players) to make a lot of money for a LONG time. The money we are talking about is nuts, and the temptation to grab as much as you can right away is incredible. Having said that, Flemings will most likely follow Sampson’s advice. Sampson was in the NBA long enough to recognize the guys who can make it in the NBA. He also teaches a sophisticated NBA style defense that most college kids coming out of high school have no idea how to play.
All that Sampson does applies directly to the future. I’m saying barring injury Flemings can’t lose by staying. If he wants to go to the NBA tomorrow I couldn’t be happier for him. We want the same thing- our kids to be successful.

Williams was a tragedy, but when he was together he was electrifying.

Flemings is a little different than Shead and Uzan. Let’s say he got a first round grade this year. At the end of the first round. I would say it would make a ton of sense to come back to work himself in the lottery. However, that example is moot. He is already in the lottery. Would be malpractice from Sampson and Kingston’s agent if they allowed him to return.

You haven’t seen Flemdawg do anything that made you say Wow yet this season…?

Somebody please send help to Ziggy… he’s clearly either lost his sight or his mind!!!

Really? Larry Bird went from a 'pretty good player" to the 6th pick in the draft by almost winning the national championship practically by himself. David Thompson did too. (I apologize that my examples are dated but they still apply)

Didn’t Rutgers have two lottery picks last season and missed the tourney…

Ace Bailey & Dylan Harper… both picked in the top 5.

Let me end this by saying if Kingston stays for 4 years and gets a degree, he will be better than even Ron Artest.

The math is simple

And Rutgers biffed it in its season? That is on the coach.

It literally proves the point that team succes didn’t impact their draft positions…

This also isn’t like 40 years ago when Olajuwon got drafted #1 overall as a 21 year old Junior. We now live in the world of One and Dones. How many Top 10 picks have been Sophmores or 20+ years old in the last 10-15 years?

Cooper Flagg made $28 million as a College Freshman. His rookie contract is ā€œonlyā€ going to pay him $14 million this year. Why didn’t he stay in college? Because he’ll sign a $50+ million a year contract when he’s 22 years old, since he got drafted at 18.

If the window is even just cracked open a little to make it in the NBA as a top 20 pick you go for it, and it’s wide open for Kingston right now.

Agreed a different situation but I think we’re on the same page. No one who is, you know sane, would tell Flemings he needs another year here.

Nope. It actually proves the coach needs fired.

Both things can be true… apparently, he’s a great recruiter, though…

True. But getting guys and putting the system around them to get the most out of your team are two different things.

also something to consider is that draft stocks are cemented… they will drastically shift up and down before the end of the year… especially moving out of nonconference…

in the misted of praising flemmings, theres been almost no talk about the sinking of cenacs/uzans stock… cenac went from a guaranteed 1 and done lottery, to not on most top 60 drafted baords that have come out this week … but both will have a ton of time to increase their stocks

Your examples are too dated to really apply to today’s game. With that said, Bird didn’t go from a ā€œpretty good playerā€ to a top draft pick because of a tournament run. Bird averaged 32.8 points as a freshman. He was a first team AA as a sophomore. He had long since been a great player before he ever played in the NCAAT.
