I actually know 2 young alums who told me on Saturday that they got a huge box of stuff when they joined in the last 6 months.
Yes, I joined around 2022 & I did receive a welcome gift box with some swag & goodies but didnāt bring it up because I thought everyone got one.
I didnāt realize that the Life Member program had been going on since the early 2000ās.
This past Saturday and every Life tailgate the past few years always included unlimited non-alcoholic drinks and 1 coupon for free alcoholic drinks. The breakfast food this Saturday was amazing.
Actually been a thing since I graduated in 81 and before based on plaques we each have outside the Athletic Center.
Iām a long time season ticket holder and parking comes with that. If i was a casual fan deciding to come to a game and arrived to see that a lot with a good distance walk from the stadium had a $50 charge, it would likely deter me from returning.
As a long time season ticket holder I am annoyed that they are selling parking in our Donor Only lots for $50. In the past they only sold parking in the garage off Spur 5 and the Purple garage that are adjacent to Blue, both at $23 prepay $30 day of, and both have a shuttle to the stadium. I think it is a bad idea to give season ticketholders free parking passes, and itās a real bad idea to have donor only lots that you then sell access to.
Not sure I would say that itās a huge box of stuff but I did receive several life member branded items when I joined as a student in 2023
Agree and disagree. Parking is technically not free, itās a benefit associated to the level of the CP donation. I donāt mind pre-selling donor lot parking for individual games as it is a revenue opportunity for the university vs vacant space and parking management should be able to manage capacity. They should not sell donor lot parking on game day though. Slows entry into the garage and lots and I donāt trust that gameday lot attendants may oversell at some point forcing donors arriving late to alternative parking.
I went to a game at U of Michigan in 2013. It was $25 to park 1.5 miles off campus from the Big House, no shuttle. Health Center Garage at UT, which is about the same distance as the East Parking Garage by the spur, is $62 on gameday. Perspective.
Is there a portal to update my information? I see a form but it doesnāt ask about my wife or anything. I donāt know what information they have.
I was really commenting on the complaint $50 is too high for parking on gameday, I donāt really mind them selling them because even the prepay is $45. It make me feel like I got something of value with my donation. 100% agree on the gameday only reason I knew you could pay on gameday is I had to sit in line behind somebody paying with a credit card.
The ādonationā needed for a parking pass is $150, but itās not a donation its part of the price of tickets, It takes 3 seats in the basic 200s to get a pass which costs $450 total and the parking pass has a gameday value of $300. I get getting a free pass with tickets that cost over $100 a seat, a game like my seats because that really is a donation, I can buy my seats at Costco for half of what I paid this year and still get a free parking pass, so to me there is am actual donation involved. I think the threshold for a free parking pass should be at least a $500 ādonationā. It needs to be an upsell at checkout, for just another $125 donation you get a free blue parking pass, would you like to donate now? instead of the current method of buying tickets and then checking over the summer if and where your parking will be, or being surprised when one shows up in your account.
Like everything else other fanbases value parking WAY more then we do, I sold a blue pass to both Colorado and Tech for almost $200 each, my take home was $167.50 each. I listed them on Stubhub and figured if they sold I would figure it out. FYI Stubhub nerfed parking passes.
Iām not talking about meā¦nor you! Iāve been to both venues you mentioned following the Coogs, and many more. Iāve parked in peoples yards and in lots significantly further away from the stadium than our Blue/Green lots. Iām talking about a casual fan showing up for the first time. A ticket, parking and 1 Beer ($18.00) and youāve spent $100.00. Iām just guessing that might be a bit much for the āuninvestedā. Iāve given up on worrying about the reasons. Iāve missed maybe 5 home games in 25+ yrs. Weāve got to be on a big winning streak, good weather, playing a name opponent, in the evening - or our attendance struggles. Itās frustrating beyond words!
Wow! I was too early with my membership .
That is a nice ābagā. Fly your colors with Pride !
Go Coogs
Cash parking is mostly $30 around SMU. Tons of people walk a mile or so to park in the neighborhood or at park and ride across the freeway. Boulevard is amazing but for a casual fan you wouldnāt fit in. Iām a Cox MBA mentor and the bschool has free food, soft drinks and cash bar. They could have place where I can mingle with students or parents but I mostly get food, a water and go inside the building and eat with my wife or by myself.
Some tailgates have place to pay $20 and get free food and drink. Quite a few food trucks sell food. Indoor practice facility is open to Mustang Club members and only costs $75 per year to join.
At the stadium they gave out a bottle of water to all entering fans the first three games. Beer is $11 for a 16oz can and water is $5.50 or $6.50. Not many people get food but isnāt crazy expensive. A bbq sandwich is like $12. Fireworks go off after every TD and when team enters but 11 am games stink. They also have a guest celebrity with the coin toss. One whole section in lower corner is for recruits. They seem bored at times but get bottled water during the game. Got to go on field after rushing the field last week.
Its a miracle we got into the B12 over UCONN
Conference affiliation has never been about the number of fans at games.
Our beers is cheaper per oz than $11 for a 16oz. We just went to the 24oz cans so they are more expensive over all. Also I just looked at the SMU website and the GA lots closest to the stadium are $50 with the further lots being $22-28 prepay, and the shuttle stop is much further from the stadium then ours. The pricing looks very similar to ours with their $50 lots being closer then ours, but their $22 lot is across the freeway .9 miles, whereas our purple $23 is .5 miles.
I never went to it, but why did they stop doing the tailgate inside the IPF, I have no problem with the way they are currently doing the Alumni Tailgate, but I will never go to it.
Very good intel.
My wife is a professor at SMU. The lots outside her office on the north end of campus were $30 cash at 9:30 Saturday morning. Def could be a bit cheaper pre-paid.
All the complaining about $50 parking at UH and itās a limited situation. Park at Yates HS. Easy walk across Scott.
$39 for prepaid parking for UH @ Baylor. Ferrell Center, 1.3 miles from McLane Stadium.
College football in general is not cheap. Folks on tight budgets have to do some planning, no different than planning an Astros outing. We do have advantage of the light rail that many universities do not have.
I donāt like where they currently have the fraternity tailgates. they are right in the middle of everything with each trying to play there sound systems louder then the Frat next door.
Hardly.
FOOTBALL primarily drives P4 conference realignment and expansion, NOT basketball.
In football, UConn is an all-time sub.-500 program with ZERO ranked finishes in its history and NO major bowl victories or major award winners.
REALLY CRAPPY football brand.
UH is far better in that regard, with many ranked finishes, major award winners, more than one major bowl victory, and a far better all-time record, and as such, our getting into the P4 over UConn was hardly a surprise.
