247 Sports is reporting that he has attended lots of our games, and is really impressed…
We are still pursuing him, and he is still listening…I don’t think they would report anything, unless Bell himself is keeping this open…
I would be super interested to see if Bell is at the Memphis game…
A very unpublished fact is that Kinkaid is in the Top 5 largest endowments for High Schools in the country…think Stevenson, Hotchkiss, etc.
Which translates into lower (not enough) tuition payments for ALL students. This allows for scholarships (large and small) to be granted to student athletes in all sports. Very few are handed out, but they are handed out. However, these kids have to have the brains as well…no exceptions there. I saw plenty of super rich folks, legacies, even a Board member, who couldn’t get their kids in academically.
Supposedly that is why EHS came into being….wealthy but not quite academically suitable for Kinkaid or St. John’s. Now that has changed substantially since the early years of EHS, but they are still lagging a tad from the older schools. With tuition at Kinkaid (and others) at 35k+ a year, all of the privates are being a bit more generous with money. Following the Rice mode……flexibility academically tempered by athletic skills and potential.
Episcopal has come light years in a very very short period of time…nothing but green grass in front of that institution indeed.
I’ve heard some of these private schools are starting to recruit players
Yes, but they have to walk that fine line. Wealthy family paying 40g for their student to attend only to lose his/her starting position to a scholly player does not sit well in some instances.
They’ve been recruiting for quite a while. Much more exposed now as elite athletes go private for numerous reasons.
Which player is this?
Dillon Bell
See the messages above.
Less power to the players? Eww no that’s gross. If they aren’t happy or don’t want to be there they should be able to leave. You never know what players are going through, what the coaches say to them, half of the time coaches basically tell them they aren’t going to play. Shouldn’t make a kid stay at a school for 2-3 years to transfer that’s ridiculous. Coogs fans always make such a big deal about kids leaving like it’s not that serious, if they don’t want to be here wish them the best and move on. We will find someone else and be ok
I know it was way back like me, but when were you at Waltrip.
Thought y’all were talking about QBs my bad
Waltrip grad '64
The benefits of being able to recruit players to private school. Imagine these kids staying home and repping Houston on their chests in the Big 12. We could be the new Miami. I wish the coaches would do a better job of showing them that.
Starting to? I have friends who’s kids were recruited and on scholarship at local private schools.
I do not know all of the ins and outs regarding recruiting on the high school level…. But I do know San Antonio Cornerstone has done some seriously shady things in multiple sports….even got kicked out of TAPPS.
They’ve been doing it for quite awhile. Some of their baseball teams are basically travel teams. It’s caused some bad blood in past when they can recruit whereas public schools in same district have to abide by attendance boundaries
Episcopal has always recruited football players - not at a large volume but they had difference makers
Same at Strake but they were more consistent at basketball in terms of recruiting talent
UT is looking for a QB.
Which is why I don’t understand how they get to compete with the public schools.
