Some public school do too

You mean, like using a relatives address to get zoned to a certain school? Like that?

I know ā€œ back in the dayā€ that kids in the Monahans area made their way to the Permian school district….if they were good at Football of course…. Same thing happen with some baseball players but they ā€œ movedā€ to Abilene Cooper.

Katy high school has entered the chat.

Don’t you go getting on RW’s naughty list.

What makes you think he isn’t good enough to be our starting QB? I know highlights don’t show you everything but his highlights are among the most impressive that I have ever seen for a QB! In my opinion he has better scrambling ability and throwing arm than Tune at the same stage of their development. If Holgi has half the patience with him as he has with Tune then I think this kid could be very special for us! Take a look at his highlights here…

I get that recruiting takes place in public schools but it’s done illegally because they have zoning districts. If I understand correctly, private schools don’t have zoning districts, correct? Therefore, they can recruit all over the city, right?

Zoning? Not so much within districts where magnets overcome that issue. Outside district family of athlete happens to get a sweet rental deal to move into a district. Been going on for years.

OK, so back to the private school argument. They don’t have zones, right? So they aren’t recruiting illegally when they recruit around the city, correct?

Certainly not. Happens all over the country. Lew Alcindor lived on Long Island but went to Power Memorial in Manhattan.

IMG is the best example today as are most of the private powerhouses in California

Right. That’s why I was surprised that Strake was admitted into the UIL. Unless they are a special case and have a zoning district?

Sure, but they still have to pay tuition and academically qualify to Jesuit. Plus, there aren’t any buses, so geography is a limiting factor. Who wants to go to a school that’s over an hour away.

I’m sure there are scholarships and eager coaches who will find ways to have them move closer or carpool them.

Happened at my son’s high school, just have to rent an apartment indistrict and put clothes and furniture in it

lol, ok you win, the privates cheat. You can tell by all the State Championships they have.

I’ve seen his highlights before. Again keep in mind this is just my opinion as a washed up former college football player I specifically said he is the only real QB prospect we have meaning he could absolutely become the guy at some point. and obviously its up to the coaches to make that call and I trust them. But watching him play on that tape and in person in HS I have a few concerns.

  1. nearly every play in that tape is off schedule or him out-athleteing competition from cy-fair schools. That concerns me unless you are trying to say he is a greg ward or D’eriq king level talent who can do that at the high D-1 level. Obviously part that is that he clearly isn’t getting much help from O-line, but I just would like to see more throws from the pocket or even a designed roll out, etc.
  2. Building on the previous point, he shows now ability to go through a progression. I know it’s high school ball, but Dana’s offense empowers the QB to make checks at the line, go through a full progression and have a lot of responsibility overall.

Again not saying he can’t be the guy, the coaches see him every day, and if he has improved on those things then great, because to your point, he does have good arm and mobility, I just would like to see him go from an ATH to a QB before we turn over the offense to him.

All of his highlights are like that — oline breaks down and can’t block for him and he still makes plays and gets the ball to his receivers. Whether it is from him running or throwing he seems to always pick up yardage and helps his team score. How’s that a knock against him? If anything it shows he is a very good QB! He could pick up first downs and help his team score despite having a bad oline that can’t block and that’s a bad ability to have?

All the guys that have been defending Tune have been saying the reason for Tune’s INT’s was because of a bad oline that can’t block for him, which deprived him the time to throw to his receivers. However, you seem to say that because of Massoud’s ability to make plays in that circumstance (Not enough time to throw the ball) is the reason why you think he’s probably not a good QB. If the kid could pass the ball to his receivers without any time to throw the ball whatsoever (He must first run and dodge multiple tacklers first in order to get a split second to throw to his receivers and complete the pass) if he could do that while under duress without any time to even properly plant his feet and survey the field, what makes you think he can’t do it when he has Tom Brady’s time to do all of that when he is placed behind a competent oline that does a great job blocking for him? Qarterbacks always do better at throwing the ball when they have the luxery of playing behind an oline that creates a safe pocket for them to throw the ball. The fact that this kid doesn’t have an oline that could remotely do anything like that for him is exactly why I am impressed with him!

If you could throw the ball with 5 guys coming right at you within a couple of feet from smashing into you then I am extremely impressed. But if you could complete the same pass to a receiver while being shielded by an awesome oline that gives you are the time in the world to make the throw then I’m much less impressed with you.

The QB that can throw the ball with a bad oline can definitely throw the ball when he has a great oline, but a QB that can only throw the ball when he has a top-notch oline protecting him would not be able to throw the ball well if he is put behind a terrible oline! You can bet on that! So, to address your concerns, yes Massoud would do great if you put him inside a pocket created by an oline that gives him time to survey the field and check on all of his receivers!

I feel like you are looking for an argument here man. Ive tried to put as many qualifiers on this as possible that I could 1000% be wrong. But I disagree about your analysis about throwing without pressure etc.
Id say 65% of the throws on that tape are after the play has broken down. Meaning its a scramble drill, so again, tells me nothing about his ability to read coverage, look off a safety go through a progression etc. also in a lot of these plays its either a poor decision that worked out okay like some of the jump balls hes throwing into double and triple coverage, or because the defense has broken down the receiver is wide open.

I will again end this by saying I do not mean to imply that he cannot do these things. I just have not seen the evidence, and therefore it would concern me to see him at the guy moving forward. But if as a coach who gets to see him every day Dana and Shannon decide he can do those things then great.

Line keeps screen blocking and Massoud scrambles so he can throw deep. Not a team player IMO.
