I have the same distrust of government innoculations and mandated ‘shots’. In the service I was given a mandated swine flu shot that knocked me out for 3 days, couldn’t get out of bed, pissed on myself. Could have died laying there. People did die from it and it is very difficult to find information on those who had violent reactions to that swine flu shot campaign. The forced and hidden side effects of government intrusion has happened to a lot of us. Yes the syphilis trial studies are but one example of why no one should trust everything that the WHO or the CDC mAnDaTeS

You have to understand the “why”. Why are MMR vaccination rates falling now ?
People didn’t just wake up and become stupid. Something caused them, at increasing
rates, to abandon sound and proven effective medical vaccines. Why ?
It’s only going to get worse.
Swine flu did have some side effects, namely GBS. I had GBS and never got a swine
flu vaccine. But this is about MMR vaccine rates dropping; not me or you or swine flu.
The why now is very relevant.

Because their reasons may not be valid based on science and logic.
As stated originally, something has polluted the well so to speak. Misinformation,
debunked stories, and anti-science and anti-intellectual fueled philosophy is in play here.

I’ve worked on shows where we tackled this exact subject. Yes, race historically has an effect on healthcare. From those Tuskeegee experiments, which were truly sinister and abhorrent, to the disparity in pre-natal care given to black women vs. others (via the doctors themselves), then there is a reason medicine is not trusted by parts of that community.
So there’s one explanation for low vaccination rate in one populace.

Everything stopped in 1972. Once those experiments stopped, everything magically got better and everyone trusts the establishment.
Why did you dismiss the low vaccination rates of the undocumented? Are you denying their rates are much lower than the overall American populace? Or do you just want to chastise and harangue the anti-vaxxers? Looks to me you’re on a mission. Carry on and I wish you success in your war on the anti-vaxxers.
The why is not relevant at this point at all. Your point is that there are cohorts (the statistics definition) that aren’t vaccinated and they add to the less than 95% vaccinated herd immunity threshold. All unvaccinated groups need to be addressed equally not just those you disagree with.
I admit I was confused. I believed the thread title and thought this was about the return of measles in this country and ALL of the underlying reasons associated with the return. I see you’ve admitted that you want to make a political statement just as Lee initially concluded in post #2. You just want the focus on one segment of the population, carry on.

and others say borders are closed and we have deported or self deported 3 million.
They are not a growing community, so seems unlikely they are putting us at a 35 year
high for measles.
So, no, I don’t deny their rates may be lower, but I don’t care about them. If they
attend public schools, under old rules, they would be vaccinated. I highly doubt they
are setting the records for opt out exemptions.
So, I’m interested in the groups that are increasing opt out exemptions and have a declining vaccination rates now. And I have yet to hear a reason why these groups
are now behaving this way. What’s changed ? And why now ? That seems to be the
question you don’t want to address. There is a strong correlation between measles
cases and lack of MMR vaccinations.

I don’t believe those numbers for a minute, and I never claimed those numbers were accurate. First off, we don’t know how many undocumented crossed our porous borders. Some estimates were 12 million, while some others were 30 million. We don’t know those numbers, how can we know how many self-deported?
So thanks for all that, just to say you created a thread to chastise the non-vaxxers and to politicize the issue. I’m not here to stop you, so carry on.
Hopefully one of them will take your challenge and answer the pressing questions that you have for them. March forward, and oh yeah, update the thread title; you aren’t looking for all the possible solutions.

The other problem with the immigrant is the cause explanation presented by
@RobDob and others is the fact measles is highly contagious. It doesn’t have
a 1 year, 2 year, or 3 year incubation period. So that claim doesn’t hold water.
And we are just discussing factual numbers. That’s not political.
Same valid reason that the pro-choice lobby uses. If the anti-vaxxers use it as a reason, then it’s valid.
I don’t think missing a 11 a.m. kickoff because of the September heat is a valid reason, but there are people who stand by that reasoning to miss a UH home game. Their body, their choice.
If your kids and grandkids have been vaccinated with the MMR vaccine, then you’ve done your job; why all the fuss over some measles cases? We actually know why.
I guess about the same time that the abortion discussion became so political. What is the big deal over 2000 measles cases per year? The last 2 years stand out because of the way Melinda Yao created the graph. Relatively speaking, 2000 cases is minuscule. These aren’t deaths being discussed.
