Ya know, I loved reading the Illiad (especially), as well as the Odyssey and Aeneid in high school.
The only thing is, that trailer doesn’t show me much. For one thing, I though we’d get a sneak peak at the Cyclops. For another, their vessels don’t look like Ancient Greek galleys. They look more like Viking longships.
Now understand…I’d LOVE to see a good live action movie adaption of the Odyssey, complete with the Cyclops, Lotus Eaters, etc.
This trailer, however, doesn’t really have me psyched up.
It was a very well done movie. I don’t follow movies very much, in fact the last movie I saw in a theater was about 10 to 15 years ago.I probably go to as many concerts a month as most people go to movies.
That said, we were invited by friends and I had no idea what it was about. It took a while to get into, kinda like watching “Kill Bill” for the first time if you didn’t know what to expect. Penn and DiCaprio were very good, but Benicio Del Toro killed it in his role.
I don’t think it’s for everyone. One does need to put aside any political points of view and just enjoy the movie for what it is.
I just finally finished it for the second time… been watching for a couple days. It was great in the theater, but being able to hit the pause button is nice too.
I agree about Sean Penn, Leonardo, and Benecio. They were all great, but I think Sean Penn was outstanding. I think Chase Infiniti was amazing as well. A real beauty.
So many great twists and turns, intrigue, great chase scene, but I appreciate the humor as much as anything else in the movie.
Like you said, just an all around well made production.
Saw Anaconda today with family. It was very funny with some “wife” jumps in it. Recommend if you are looking for something fun, best in theaters if you want to see a really big snake.
The original was one of those “so bad it’s good” kind of movies. Ohhh, but it was bad. The best scene was near the end as the camera showed Jon Voigt being swallowed by the snake - from the inside.
All in all, a solid four out five stars. I dropped one star because it didn’t show enough of Jennifer Lopez in a wet outfit.
Just watched a movie from 1946, The Killers. Great cast with Kirk Douglas & Edmund O’Brien. Ava Gardner was hotter than the hinges on the gates of hell.
Based on an Ernest Hemingway story. Got a kick out of the opening character, Nick Adams, who was the character in early Hemingway novels
I just saw a really powerful movie called I Was A Stranger . I would highly recommend this movie. It’s a story of survival based on real lives from refugees fleeing the civil conflict in Syria. It gives some insight into the impact other countries have on that region, the courage people have in the face of danger, and resilience of those fleeing when the world isn’t offering anything other than death and destruction.
