My wife wanted to see Melania so we went this afternoon. I know it’s been trashed by the critics but will say it was more entertaining than I thought it would be. My wife said she didn’t know what to expect be really liked it. It didn’t trash anyone, not much pres., a lot of fashion and style stuff; her interest and visions. Her days from 1/1/25 to 1/21/25. You’ll never guess who’s a Michael Jackson fan.

Sounds like you enjoyed it. Was there a particular through line or story they were telling with the doc? The synopsis I read (just that it was about her during that short period) didn’t seem particularly interesting.
I think a doc following her husband during that period would have been interesting, though.
Saw Train Dreams on Netflix as I work my way through the Best Picture nominees. I didn’t know what to expect but this is an excellent movie about the life of an Idaho logger through much of the 20th century. It is a very deliberate movie but beautiful and well worth your time.

Bugonia was quite the movie. Jessie Plemons was robbed of a Best Actor nomination.
There is a movie called The Return released in 2024 with Ralph Fiennes. It covers the part of the Odyssey once Odysseus washes up in Greece up until taking his kingdom back. Spoilers on a 2000+ year old poem.
It leaves all of the more fantastic stuff out but is pretty good. I think I saw it on Showtime but I’m not sure where it is now. Worth a watch.
That would be like telling the story of Jesus without anything supernatural
He’s put together a really good resume of credits and performances.
It shows some of the things a first lady does behind the scenes leading up to the inauguration. Gave some back story to her life. Definitely a documentary, appealing more to women than men but I was surprised I didn’t get bored.
Saw Predator Badlands, meh. I think we’ve been spoiled by streaming series’s, sometimes 2 hours isn’t enough to develop the characters, it seemed rushed to me, but I do enjoy sci-fi. On the other hand Rental Family was pretty good for me. Brendan Frasier was terrific. Heartwarming. Catch’em if you have the time.

One Battle After Another was excellent….Leo and Benicio were excellent….
Teyana Taylor was absolutely incredible….but the scene stealer was Sean Penn as Lockjaw….if he doesn’t win best supporting then he will be robbed.
Frankenstein was a close second IMO.

I can see One Battle being an easy movie to dislike for some people but I thought all the performances were terrific.
Enjoyed Frankenstein as well. I still need to see Marty Supreme.

We showed Patton on the 10’ by 20’ outdoor screen built between 6 barracks (we called them dorms to piss off the lifers) in Cam Ranh Bay in 1970. All enjoyed the movie but almost every older NCO in CRB came out that night and whooped and hollered like high schoolers. That was as much fun to watch them as the movie.

man, that’s a tall order…Heat is a great film. so many great actors in that film…
