Moving to electric vehicles will dull recessions currently inflated by oil

Huh, imagine that. Even at EOL windmills are light years better than fossil energy.

Surprised this is still up on a government web site.

Money quote:

“In 1958, it ultimately sold 63,110 of them, and in 1959, that number dropped to 44,891. Tesla wishes it could hit those sales numbers. Despite CEO Elon Musk thinking it could hit a quarter-million registrations in its first year, in 2024, Tesla registered just 38,965 Cybertrucks. The number was sliced to 20,237 in 2025, and through May of this year, just 7,133 Cybertrucks have been registered in the U.S. Keep in mind, a good chunk of that is because Musk’s other companies — like SpaceX — have built up fleets of the things.”

“The company’s overall operating margin dropped to 1.4 per cent from 4.1 per cent a year ago.”

Yea, I’m not a fan of that look either but I do like it better than the Cybertruck.

I think it would look better without a roof though. That could be cool.

The revenue jump comes after Tesla reported a blowout delivery quarter. The EV maker reported Q2 deliveries of 480,126, up 25% year over year and easily topping Bloomberg consensus estimates of 397,466. Energy storage deployments came in at 13.5 GWh, more than 50% above the first quarter’s 8.8 GWh.

Tesla dropped for the same reason Alphabet dropped, investors are pulling back due to high CAPEX spending on AI.

I could see it working very well in Asia and Europe. Europe particularly with the small streets they have. Mid-sized and small trucks already do well there compared to larger ones. Ford Ranger is the number 1 pickup in Europe with an incredible 43% of the market there.

Tesla’s plant is on Tollway 130, East of Austin.

On the west side of 130 is a building with a huge parking lot, and said Lot is full of Cybertrucks. Would guess there are thousands and thousands of them parked there.

That is where their production is, not being sold. Laying around their HQ.

I wonder at what point do they stop making them or have to majorly drop the price to get rid of the inventory.

If you’re responding to The Mandell’s post, he was talking about a drop in operating margin & profits which is not something that is affected by the stock price or stock trading activity.

If you’re not responding to The Mandell’s post, then I have no idea what you’re responding to

Tesla is a complex company. It’s not as much a car company as it is a technology company. Operating margins are directly effected by CAPEX spending. Many investors sell on declining margins and cash flow.

Ok, I think I follow what you’re saying now. Are you saying the operating margin dropped for Tesla because Tesla is doing large CAPEX spending on AI?

This what CAPEX does to cash flow if revenue declines.

That’s a bingo

I agree with Chris @coachv on this and the fact Tesla is a complex entity. The xAI stuff
has now moved to spacex , so that should help out on tesla’s books. As well as
X itself moving. However Tesla still has the robotaxi service to develop and the robots to
deliver on. They still have lots of R&D expenses with no revenue. And waymo has been
at AVs (autonomous vehicles) for 9-10 years without a profit yet. They are projecting profit in 2027-2028 window.

Just guessing that Tesla has written off the costs of thousands of CyberTrucks. Maybe tens of thousands.

This created a one time charge against Earnings.

Future P&L Statements will be without such write-offs and could show actual profits.

They would have publicly disclosed it if they did.

Yes, their auditors would have them make adjustments to inventory for the impairment. I’m sure if/when that happens it will be picked up by the news in addition to the required financial reporting.
