Moving to electric vehicles will dull recessions currently inflated by oil

During the big freeze I got my generator running and hooked up a couple of space heaters. I realized I only had about a gallon of gas on hand as after hurricane season I dump the gas into my old truck. My friend said they just got power in Manvel so I told the wife I was heading to Manvel to get 5 gallons of gas. My wife said “while you’re out, pick me up a large coffee at Starbucks”. SMDH I said none of the Starbucks would be open and since the generator was running she could hook up the coffee maker to it and brew her own.

When the power is out, the gas stations can’t pump either.

From now on I keep gas on hand in the winter. Not as much as during hurricane season

It’s almost like I didn’t post this 5 days ago:

Electric vehicles fail at a lower rate than gas cars in extreme cold

But that doesn’t fit the anti-EV narrative!

Just a WAG but the failure for most ICE vehicles in cold weather is the battery

Yep…In HS up in Kansas I got stuck at my girlfriends house when it got so cold my car wouldn’t start. Wouldn’t even take a jump! I’d driven over at about 5pm and was trying to leave at about 9:30pm. Oh, darn…had to stay the night.

  1. You can’t charge in these conditions
You replied. Yes you can. Does that mean all of these people in and around Chicago are dumb asses?
  2. Operate your car properly…By your answer EV’s are not for everyone. It should be for everyone.
  3. My boss, bad battery and flat tire. I’ll give you that one.
  4. EV’s mandates. You clearly have not watched, heard or read what gavin newsom executive order.
  5. Leaders. Referring to the CA GOV and our current leader.

Which people are you referring to? How many of them were there? Did they all have the same set of circumstances? How does the number in this group compare to all EV owners in this area?

People with ICE vehicles don’t all operate their cars properly. By your logic then ICE cars aren’t for everyone and never have been for everyone.

Interesting piece and take aways:
Norwegians seems to be much smarter Americans
Norwegians use their EV’s for short distances.
Vs,
Americans using EV’s that make larger trip
Explanation for everyone that has not been to Europe:
European cities, South American cities have been historically planned around a center of a town. Usually it is a church. American cities are the opposite and are spread out.
This is the main reason that you have buses, subways and trains serving the entire city and its suburbs.
Lackluster infrastructure? The tv reports showed tesla stations widely considered the best EV stations around.
Does the article implies that living in an apartment building is not great for an EV?
I am 100% for EV’s but no one should tell us that they are the answer to the combustion engine.
Plugging an EV is getting electricity from a plant using what???

I agree and that doesn’t even take into account the social and environmental impacts of the mining for minerals to go into the batteries either.

However the argument is does the EV provide a net benefit when the electrical demand is increased while knowing that electricity comes majority from fossil fuels.

Yes. Like I said before, they CAN be charged. They do it in Norway all the time.

If you look at the CA mandate, it includes plug in hybrids. These cars have electric motors and….wait for it….gas powered motors. So even though CA says they want zero emission vehicles by 2035, it’s not going to happen because even plugin hybrids have emissions.

Yep it you look at the stories out of Chicago most of these folks were Uber drivers leasing Tesla’s… In going to take a shot in the dark saying the owner’s manual was not read about cold conditions charging.

This. Plus, if you have a place to charge at home, you don’t have to worry about super chargers when driving locally.

This explains what happened in Chicago.

Outstanding article. I fully appreciate the following line that sums up what happens.
“Also, it’s high time we accept the reality of EV range in winter, and instead focus on solutions to optimize it.” Developing even better charging stations is at the core of Tesla’s business. Musk knows that EV’s are not perfect but he is trying its best to improve its product.

Is he though?

Blaming users for known problems.

Fake news not working on Tesla.
