Spoiled by Shead and I have not seen Jefferson or Miller play. I could be wrong and either Jefferson or Miller or both are ready for primetime. But they are both evaluated as CG and not PG like many of our recent point guards like Shead, Robinson, Davis.
In my opinion there was a big drop off in ball handling and teammate opportunity creation when others ran point this year. This is the position I would target in the portal, depending on what the other seniors decide this offseason.
Who knows, maybe Cryer comes back and is anointed the PG
The only thing I’d change about our big men situation is have a legit shooter who can stretch the floor a little.
This was the first season we had a 3 guard/ 2 PF system without a legit outside shooter from the low post. I think that is what contributed to our scoring droughts.
We had Walker in 22/23
Fabian 21/22
Gorham 20/21
A lot us kind of got excited seeing practice footage of Roberts shooting 3s but it never materialized in games.
Out of all the Big’s minutes between JoJo, J’Wan, and J’avier, there were a grand total of two 3s taken between them.
I believe the most successful teams that make deep runs in March have a versatile big man or an absolute monster underneath. Maybe JoJo is that guy next year.
No doubt when the first team All American and B12 player of the year was siting, his replacement was not nearly as good. We may not get another PG as good as Shead in my lifetime (which may not be that long BTW). Those guys are rare as hen’s teeth and he has us spoiled, but be prepared to not have a PG nearly as good.
There would be plenty of minutes to go around between Francis Roberts Tugler and McFarland if Roberts gives us one more year. Who starts from one game to another shouldn’t matter. Almost every season we unfortunately seem to run out of bodies at one position or another. We’re going to need to have a deep talented roster to win it all one of these years and hopefully the players see that vision and are willing to share minutes on a championship team.
I feel like our bigs can develop Javier just had a bad game I feel like where we missed out this year was with Ramon and Mylik and Dunn Dunn was very inconsistent and looked like he was in it for himself sometimes more than the team he took some terrible shots this year it’s just Ramon doesn’t have any business playing big 12 basketball he is a hustle guy and I get that but realistically so is Mylik his basketball skills just are not there it would be different if he was 6’6 but he’s undersized he is not a good shooter and not a good ball handler Ramon is 6’4 not a good ball handler not a good shooter he made a good shot Dejon was 6’5 and could handle the ball we should be going after guys like that in Sampson I trust but we had more guys on the bench in warmup suits then guys that could actually play in the game I get that injuries were accounted into that but every guy that chooses to play for this program and is on scholarship should be able to make an impact just my thoughts
We rely on hustle and grit way to much that’s why we are always hurt in crucial moments at the end of the season we need to replace some of the hustle with skill
I agree I’m with you he is a solid backup there is talent out there Breaon Brady probably wasn’t recruited highly at all and had a good offensive game they are out there
Francis and Roberts combined for 20 points and 16 rebounds against Duke and were part of a defensive effort that held Duke to 54 points. We only scored 51… so they basically accounted for 40 percent of our points and half of our rebounds. Duke kind of ran us off of the 3 point line but we could do a lot worse than what our bigs gave us last game not sure why Francis is getting a hard time. It’s clear what he needs to work on this off-season, if he can add a go to scoring move he’ll be a handful for our opponents next year
Lol.
For the love of everything sacred. Francis averaged 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game at home. Away he averaged 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 block.
He shot 65% over the whole season on 20 minutes a game.
Tuggler on the season averaged 4 points a game, 4 rebounds, and 1 block on 15 minutes a game. He shot 55%.
