Next Head Coach

How about Kelvin Sampson, he can do double duty. He played some baseball. Joking, sad thing is not many care about UH baseball.

Should the team win, say 34 games. Win the AAC regular season title … does the staff get retained?

Should the team win, say 34 games. Win the AAC regular season title AND win the AAC tourney to get the regional bid … how is the staff NOT retained?

Gonna be an interesting month.

Perfect world for me is moving on but retaining Kivett. Offense has turned it around and he appears to be our best recruiter since Couch.

Pitching has improved. Even with the injuries.

Because after 13 seasons we will be nowhere near where we should be, and have shown no signs of being able to get there pre and post Frank Anderson.

Pitching has improved but a team ERA of 5.99 against this schedule is pretty atrocious. I will give them credit though that they’ve given a bunch of guys a chance.

I don’t argue that point with you at all. But surely you can see how the AD might be moved to keep the staff should they win that number of games, win the AAC regular season and win the AAC tournament to make regional. Too much opportunity there to say “they’ve turned it around.” Pez doesn’t seem keen to make a bold move.

I would agree Kivett is an outstanding recruiter. The pitching coach leaves much to be desired. There won’t be another Frank Anderson, but objectively compare the much-maligned Rooney to Bunn and how much difference in results is there?

What travel ball teams does he not have a relationship with? He obviously has a relationship with the Banditos, which is the best program in South Texas.

Isn’t this the last year of Whitting’s contract ? That should say all that needs to be said about his future. I think its get to the tournament or he is gone.

There are actually a few that I know for a fact and others that I have heard third person….I don’t want to throw the names of the clubs on the board, I guess if you really wanted to know I could let you know in DM.

If you look over the last several years at where the majority of the recruits have come from you can get an idea.

I’m not even sure the Banditos are the “best” in the Houston area, much less all of south Texas. They do recruit well for their showcase team, though.

Even if we call them the best, how many of their top guys are on the UH roster right now?

We could totally ignore that program and focus on finding players and be way ahead of where we are now. I kind of think Tony Levine could recruit a tournament team to UH just by building solid relationships with coaches within 2.5 hours of Houston.

I would say the Banditos Showcase team is the best in South Texas and that would be the team Houston would recruit from the most. I am not saying they have done a good Job doing it, but it is an organization that Whitting has an “in” with.

I see UH going 7-1 or 6-2 to finish.
UH makes AAC finals and Whit gets a new deal.
(regardless of the legit arguments that it’s time to move on)

Solid but they have a ceiling.
Banditos owner/operator arrested in Waco at a baseball tourney in a prostitution sting.

Took a tar and feathering in news/social media & some parents will never let him coach their kids.
Their loss. DeLeon/staff know what they are doing.

I played a lot of summer weekend softball tournaments with the Deleon brothers back in the day.

Dang. Dude was paying for it….lame.

Bunn brought in 23 pitchers this year. He has his guys. And they are losing a lot of their main contributors on offense.

From 2014-2016 Frank Anderson’s staffs had team ERA’s of 2.35-2.89. Each of those 3 years, 13 pitchers saw action. Quality before quantity. I don’t know how he did it. Neither does Bunn.

I can think of 3 reasons Anderson did it. Lantrip, Fletcher and Romero.

Each year 10-12 of the 13 had ERA’s under 4.00. Anderson’s magic at work.
This season, we’ve got 4 with ERA’s under 4.00, and Murray is the only one still pitching. The other 3 combine for 16 IP.
