Didn’t Bunn have an impressive resume of big name schools? Was he a cheap hire? Would we give the next guy a two year deal?

If he was made to make the choice between him being fired or getting rid of Bunn….means he is already on thin ice…if the are horrible next year then he’ll be gone.
You think? Fire him after one year in a much tougher conference? They would be better off just doing it now, IMO.

Sounds like they let him grovel for his job….once you have had to make concessions to keep your job it’s like you’re on probation almost.
He’s not getting a clean slate just because it’s a new conference…. Another below par season and he’s out.

So they give him a three year extension and then fire him after another subpar year? No bueno.
It will not have a high buyout.

It did not say that in the Houston Chronicle article but I was told that by a very good source. He was given a choice and obviously did what he needed to do to save his job. I am not sure how many years he is going to get, though.

The state of NC is sending 8 schools to regionals… 8!!!
We’re in what is highly regarded as the top baseball recruiting zone in the USA and we can’t beat Tulane twice to get to the AAC Championship game…

It should be a 1 year contract with a low to moderate guaranteed salary and heavy on incentives.
That’s what I thought after last season. I have lost faith that Pez has the stones to do the right thing by the program.

I don’t follow the baseball team as closely as a lot of you. However, it seems since we are now effectively in the Big 12, we need to start acting like a big time program. IMHO, big time programs don’t keep giving guys with Whitting’s recent results second, third, and fourth chances. I don’t know why they haven’t let him go already.
Not being in a regional since 2018 is an automatic disqualifier, even taking into account the COVID year. There’s no way the University of Houston should EVER go four seasons in a row without making a regional- not with the school being in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country.

No legit pitching coach is going to come into a “one year produce or else” situation. They’re going to want to know the staff has 3 seasons to build and produce. Only a desperate pitching coach with no other options will take the one year or else job offer. That would lead me to believe the firing of Bunn (much needed) = contract extension.
Perhaps Kivett can be “groomed” to take over in a few years. Other options already discussed here are Sean Allen, Pat Hallmark… people throw in Trout, but he signed an extension last summer. Jake Gautreau from Miss. St. is on a lot of radars to be a head coach. Josh Elander, Associate HC at Tennessee, is from TX and played at TCU and is widely regarded as head coach material right now. He and Kivett coached together at Tennessee. I could see Elander as HC and Kivett as Associate HC where he’s groomed to run a program on his own down the line.
Keep in mind 3 SEC jobs are open in Alabama, Missouri and Georgia. Those jobs will pay $ and get the best “applicants” on the market. The UCF job and Wichita State jobs are also open. I wouldn’t think UH has to worry much about the WSU gig cannibalizing the pool, but the UCF job can be a huge draw.
It sure feels like Bunn getting dismissed means the rest of the staff remains and the search for a pitching coach will be on. Does Sean Allen leave Ohio State for the same role at UH… or does he only leave OSU for a head coaching gig?

He used to coach at SEC schools and if he was any good, they’d have paid to keep him (see Frank Anderson). When we hired him, I believe he was at Middle Tennessee St.

I really do not see the reasoning on keeping status quo. How many have been to games last few years….I’ve been to funeral homes that had more energy and buzz. The program is flat and stale with no juice. Love TW but Coog Baseball needs a new direction with a fresh approach and vibe. Going into the Big 12 isn’t going to magically fix it
